Two More Store Interiors, January 1966

Old photos showing the interiors of Disneyland stores are pretty scarce, and today I am posting my final two from January 1966 (more likely from December 1965, really).

There's candy aplenty here; ergo, I say we are in the Candy Palace. Me smart. Me give hug. There's enough sugar to rot even the hardiest teeth. Narwhals beware. And, with the holidays at hand there are oodles of beribboned, cellophane-wrapped gift packs of goodies. You can even get a giant lollipop, the kind Krusty the Clown loves so much. Give one to somebody you don't like and see if they can figure out what the heck to do with it. The ladies with the cat's-eye glasses and beehive hairdos will be happy to help.

Does anybody have a guess as to where all of this sparkling crystal and glassware would have been sold? Ella Fitzgerald would be banned from this establishment on the off chance that she would sing one of her shattering high notes.

While Myrtle and Bea aren't shimmering with cheer, the shop looks festive. :) What does one do with those huge lollipops, could one eat it in a year of Christmases?

Crystal crystal on the wall: which is the prettiest shop of them all? Arribas Brothers Crystal Shop is at WDW but is/was it DL too? Or maybe I'm completely confused. :)

Chaina you are correct- Arribas Brothers Cryastal Shop on Main Street. (Arribas Brothers had a shop at Disneyland.)

Arribas Bros. still runs the glass shops on Main St. and in New Orleans Square and they have a cart in Downtown Disney. They had a store next to the waterfalls at the DL hotel, but that is going to be bulldozed...if it hasn't already.

Thanks for the info about the Arribas Brothers, everyone!

When did Arribas have a store in Disneyland? In the 60's? I thought it might be the Crystal Shop that's been there forever, however I didn't know that it had different owners/sponsors over time. What do I know? I don't shop, I take pictures, LOL!

My Mother always loved that crystal shop. Dad and I practically had to drag her out each trip.

The dark background here almost looks like the One Of A Kind Shop (now gone) in NOS. That was a must-stop for Mom too, right after exiting Pirates. This photo can't be that, since I see two glasses alike on the left shelf.

There is/was may still be, Cristal D'Arques in NOS, separate store from One Of A Kind. I bought a mickey mouse glass mug there in 1976, which i still have on my desk.

Beautiful pictures and memories. Thanks Major.

Notice the wall in the back of Candy Palace. It was removed during an expansion, but what was behind it back then? A stockroom? Another shop?

Awesome post, but is it "Live" or is it Memorex?

Great post as always...

Crystal D'Orleans is the only original-to-1966 New Orleans Square shop still intact today. Lafitte's Silver, the One Of A Kind, Le Gourmet, all have bit the dust and been replaced with garbage stores. Too bad.

How is it that shops people make huge hits of can fail anyway and/or be replaced with something else second or third rate? It's not a dead strip mall we're talking about, there can't be a more ideal situation.

Nancy, that's a good idea. Looks like they wouldn't be too hard to make, just find some white cotton-ish filler and felt red ribbons & bows. :)

dfan07, I saw that wall and almost commented on it. I do remember it being there before the Candy Palace expansion. I kind of remember an extension of the Penny Arcade being behind that wall. In fact, if you enter the Candy Palace through the side doorway that's next to the Coke Corner Pianist/Piano, there is still a sign over the door with "Penny Arcade" spelled out in light bulbs.
