Even More Tomorrowland Construction

Are you sick of these Tomorrowland construction photos yet? If so, don't worry, there aren't too many of them left.

By now this is kind of a familiar view, as we've seen a few others taken in the same general vicinity. Cement pipes, open trenches, and a tangle of wood and metal scaffolding make for a mess of a scene. But a fascinating one!

It's amazing to think that this massive project was completed in less than one year!

Major-

But any view of the Matterhorn with the Xmas Star is a beauty.

Thanks, Major.

I'm not tired of Tomorrowland construction pics! I agree with Nanook about the Matterhorn star pic. I really wish I could have seen it in person, but I didn't visit the park at Christmastime until the late seventies. Unfortunately, they had stopped using it by then. Wasn't there a rumor that it was going to make a return for the 60th anniversary?

Random thought while looking at these photos - don't really remember seeing the square, 1965+ buckets with the pre-1967 Tomorrowland Skyway station. With it being such a short (<2 years) period when that would have been possible, I'm not surprised.

Does anyone know - was the original Tomorrowland Syway station demolished and rebuilt, or was it just remodeled with the new Tomorrowland? Comparing aerial photos from 1960 and 1970, the roof of the structure seems to have retained the same size, shape, and structural details as the land around it changed, although the resolution in both of those photos leaves a lot to be desired at full magnification (...cation...cation...). It seems like it would have been more trouble and cost than it would have been worth to build a new station, and none of the construction photos we've seen place the station inside the construction zone.

Oh, gawd! More Tomorrowland construction pics? Can't you do something else?! I mean, really! I want Disney World!! ;)

Before I scrolled down, I thought that was the Jungle Cruise launch striped canopy in the first image.

There's just something special about Disneyland construction images, like watching something new being born. Another wonderful set today. Thanks, Major.

TokyoMagic! Yes, there was rumor that the Christmas Star was supposed to return for the 60th Anniversary and we all know how that turned out.

Photo 1 has me a little stumped, i think the 'tower' element in the left center is part of the COP central core. Any construction photo is worth posting, Major. Thank you.

Wha? We're running out of New Tomorrowland construction photos? Well there goes my Happy New Year right into the toilet. Where am I supposed to get the research material for my virtual reality job as construction foreman?

Nanook, I do like that Christmas star…

TokyoMagic!, I seem to recall reading a rumor about the possible return of the Christmas star, using bright, efficient LEDs, but like many rumors, it was full of hot air.

Chuck, while I have done no research on the matter, I would assume that the Tomorrowland Skyway station was merely remodeled. As you pointed out, it probably would have been more trouble and cost than necessary. BUT… I don’t really know!

K. Martinez, remember, in the early years the Jungle Cruise boats passed through Tomorrowland! I would be happy if I had LOTS and lots of construction photos. When these are done, I have a few (very few) construction photos of Bear Country.

JG, whenever I take a guess, I’m generally wrong, so I’ll rely on some other reader to make a guess. I wanted to say that the structure was the Rocket Jets - but I'm sure I'm incorrect.

Patrick Devlin, there were something like 25 in the batch, which is a lot, but there are never enough! I hope you manage to have a happy new year anyway - these photos will continue into February, probably.

Major, oh yeah, I remember Jungle Cruise boats passing through Tomorrowland. It's my strongest clearest Disneyland memory. I've never seen construction photos of Bear Country before so that ought to be cool to see.

In the second shot, it looks like that swervey Monorail curve has already been straightened out now that the Yacht Bar has been moved to Yesterland...
