Three From August 1964

Today we're going to spend some quality time with two nice ladies. Sisters? BFFs? I don't even know them, but I like them. For one thing, they look like they are dressed for a summery cocktail party rather than a day of standing in line. Here they are enjoying a brief photo op in the Carnation truck.

Somewhere in Adventureland....! The Doublemint Twins. Is that the Swiss Family Treehouse behind that bamboo enclosure? That fence isn't designed to keep people out, it is there to keep people IN! Because they have gone jungle crazy. You know it's true.

What? They're leaving already? It's only 4:30! In August I'll bet the park stayed open until midnight. I can't even pretend that they're just heading to the Opera House to see Mr. Lincoln, because he won't move in until 1965. Notice the out-in-the-open fire hydrant, and the water fountain (sans C&H Sugar), and the Asta-shaped boot scraper in the doorway.

These pics are so sunny and happy. :)

Adorable Asta 'boot-scraper', I want. Gosh which looks better, the dress or trousers...

Unflattering light in the middle pic, poor Twins, but that doesn't matter. It is a happy unflattering. Matching red purses. Their necklaces say "Adventureland." Yet that's one of the best Carnation truck pics I've ever seen. Picture perfect.

it looks like they are going into that shoppe to me...wonder what great things they took home that day from Disneyland?

Malaria or dengue fever, I'll warrant. That bamboo fence was the perimeter of the Quarantine Camp.

In that last picture. there is the water fountain in all it's glory. Only thing missing is the bag of sugar.

In that second pic, one of the ladies is holding a basket that we didn't see in the first pic and now her purse is inside of it. I bet she bought that basket in Adventureland. And in the third pic, the purse is being carried separately....perhaps the basket was stuffed with souvenirs by then?

Hey, the lady carrying the basket changed her shoes for that third pic!

Love love love their outfits. Definitely one of my favorite things about this site is the timeless fashions and envying the dresses on most of these ladies. Fabulous photos :)

Chiana, I'll bet Asta is a genuine antique... back in those days, a cast-iron relic like that was probably a cheap find. A little new paint, and voila!

Nancy, it sure looked like they are making a beeline for the exit to me! But I hope they did buy something.

Chuck, I am always worried about schistosomiasis!

Thufer, I mention the water fountain in my text! And even the sugar.

TM!, these photos are posted in any sort of order really, so the last one might not show them leaving. It does seem odd that they are heading towards the train station, as there wasn't much to do down there (besides riding the train, I mean). But I agree, that woven purse is almost certainly from Adventureland! And what's the deal, did that woman actually bring an extra pair of (more comfy) shoes?

Hannahx2, I agree... the "people watching" is definitely part of the fun of these old photos.

Wow, that boot scraper is uber cool. It reminded me of the horse tethers that used to line Main Street! Haven't seen those in years. Oh and I remember my mom always carrying an extra pair of shoes when we went to Disneyland!

Connie, where have you been??

Dengue fever? I just hope Daktari is on hand with the antidote.

perhaps they're rushing over to catch the train?

Katella, that theme song is going to be in my head the rest of the day. Thanks! (And I really mean that)

That amazing boot scraper makes up for the lack of a sack of sugar...
