3 From Fantasyland, June 1975

Welcome to June, 1975! "Roller Boogie" wouldn't be released for another three years, but guess what? Life was still worth living.

I like this early-evening photo of Captain Hook's Pirate Ship. It's positively crepuscular! The last rays of sunshine have back-lit the jolly roger, which you have to admit is pretty cool. Admit it, darn you!

And now, from above CHPS ("Captain Hook's yadda yadda...") we get a bird's eye view of Skull Rock. The restaurant looks empty, let's eat there! Could you get hot food at the pirate ship?

And lastly (because it's blurry), a look at It's a Small World. That façade us huge!

I admit it! I admit it! I Crepuscle with Capt'n Hook. "Because your mine / I walk the plank" - where were we. Yes the young man in the top pic looks too cool for school, but if we look back at the ice cream vendor, we can see that the vendor is polishing that cart to a shine. Pride! Clearly they were getting paid well...

Honestly I wouldn't care if it was a Hot (Hook?) Dog or Chips 'n Grog, I think I'd enjoy eating there by Skull Rock.

Small World pic: what's the queue (?) area on the left?

Okay, okay, I admit it...it's pretty cool! And they did have hot food....Clam Chowder!

BRING BACK THE PIRATE SHIP AND SKULL ROCK!!!

That third photo shows the caricature stand that was located between Storybook Land and Small World. We don't see too many pics of it.

Chiana, that area on the left was seating for the snack bar that used to be located between Alice and Toad. The queue and loading for Storybook Land is now located in that spot.

Some say the only two man-made structures visible to astronauts orbiting the earth are the Great Wall of China and the facade of It's A Small World. Well, maybe not, but it's a nice thought.

The Pirate Ship also sold hot meatball sandwiches. They were my go-to lunch at DL: Short line, great hot sandwich, and the most peaceful dining area in the park!

I'm now realizing just how much I miss those wonderful meatball sandwiches! They were messy and delicious! And reasonably priced!

...and fairly good food it was. I ate there often over the years and loved sitting over by the water falls.

Major, your pictures are making me fall in love with Disneyland all over again.

I am really missing the Pirate Ship, scull rock and swords in my sandwiches right about now. Quartercut, if you please.

I LOVE that 2nd picture. See the lamp shining? Dusk, when the all lights begin to come on is such a magical (there's that word) time - I'm dreaming about it now here in snow-covered Indiana.
They also sold hot tuna (not Hot Tuna the rock band) sandwiches at the pirate ship because I remember eating one and thinking how strange it was. Tasty, but strange.

Pirate's Cove was my favorite dining place for lunch.... shady & quiet & far from the madding crowd. Clam Chowder (same recipe served at the Blue Bayou), Hot Tuna Burger, Disney's excellent Jello (I believe they used fruit juice in place of water) and an orange soda.
