Beautiful Monorail - May 1984

I'm still out of town, but will be back soon. Have a great weekend!

Lou and Sue (that's Lou Perry and his daughter, Sue B.) really came through with some exceptional beauties today! There are three gorgeous shots of the Disneyland Mark III Monorail as it passed through the Hotel grounds. Check them out!

Zooooom... well, it's really more of a "shooooooshhhh...", but with a "hummmmmm....". But also like an electric guitar, totally shredding! OK, maybe I've gone too far. But how can I not, when looking at that super cool Monorail??

There it goes, back to its cavern, where it will disgorge the passengers - nutritious food for its young. Sorry, folks! I love the lush greenery, even if the flowers are poisonous oleanders. Deadly but cool. You can't even look at them for too long, or the poison will jump into your eyes. I did my own research.

Just a year or so later, the Mark III trains would be phased out one by one, replaced by the "Lear jet" Mark V trains, which I could never love. Let's take one last look at the Mark III red!

Thank you, Lou and Sue!

Major-
These trains really were sleek beauties - virtually impossible to top.

Thanks to Lou and Sue.

Wow, these pictures are really crisp and clear (it's a floor wax and a dessert topping!). We can even read the license plate numbers! Mr. Perry has done it again!
"C 5 16"... Maybe Lou was playing "Battleship" when he took these photos.

Major, we are lucky that you are so wise in the ways of oleanders.
Hmm, are we sure that's the same monorail in the second photo? I don't see any red color on it. Mebbe it's one o' them there color-changin' monirails, mebbe?

The third photo looks like Sue's avatar pic. Except it's facing the wrong way.

Taken together, these Monorail photos make an excellent set. Thanks to Lou P., Sue B., and Major P.

JB, you're right, that third photo is similar to my avatar, but I actually used THIS IMAGE of the monorail kissing the Skyway bucket. :o)

^ I also wanted to say that if you click on my avatar, you can see the Skyway bucket.

My brain automatically hears WWWhhhhaaaooo from that airhorn every time.
Always ask for the nose cone seat, as seen here in gloriously colorful detail.

YES, the monorail air horn, MS. One of the distinctive sounds of Disneyland!

This design was never topped, and big thanks to Lou and Sue for recording these pics.

Major, little-known fact, the older monorails were powered by oleander juice, which is why the old Parking Lot had so many of them planted about. The new ones we have now run on shredded unsold popcorn buckets, which is more sustainable. Thanks for this post, hope you are having a good trip!

What gorgeous photos of the Mark III monorails, my favorite of all five versions of monorails. I wish they stayed with this version.

Thank you, Lou & Sue for these wonderful photos. Thank you too, Major.

Anybody recall the Monorail Music? It's heard on "Disneyland 59" and other Disneyland TV shows, and it's on at least one CD. It's something to listen to while riding any kind of vehicle you're not driving.
