Sunday Snoozers
It's time for nobody's favorite feature... Sunday Snoozers! They're not talking about it at the Institute de Paris, or anyplace else for that matter.
First up is this photo from August 1966 - a "just okay" photo of Cascade Peak, and a corner of Tom Sawyer Island. Maybe the photographer really liked that tree that's right in the center - it IS a nice tree, I'll give you that. If you look closely, you can also see lots of little blue dots - some kind of flaw in the slide. Luckily it's not that noticeable.
Next is this undated (but probably late-1960s) photo taken from the Disneyland Railroad as it passed the façade of "It's a Small World", with the Matterhorn looming over all (as usual). Look at how packed that part of Fantasyland is! Holy Toledo. I wonder if a special event was going on elsewhere in the park, such as the debut of the Haunted Mansion? Just a theory.
I'm not sure if I will be home tomorrow or not. My travel plans were vague!

It's a good thing you mentioned the 'blue dots' - I was beginning to think I was having some sort of episode. On Cascade Peak, we can spy the Fire Sprinkler Water Motor Gong off to the left of the upper fall. And yes - it seems to be really busy.

Nanook, and here I was beginning to think that all of that Frontierland vegetation, must have been jacarandas.
At first I didn't see the blue dots. And then there were some...and some more...and more...and more... Suddenly the whole picture vanished in a blue wash if weirdness! All I could see was blue! Blue everywhere!
And then I woke up.
And Major was there, and Nanook was there, and...
Wow, I love both of the photos, but for different reasons.
Photo 1 is a great view of Cascade Peak, complete with fire alarm (thanks Nanook): and the TSI fishing pier. The little shanty was a restroom, and the interior was “not” themed. No bare boards, cobwebs or black widow spiders, just shiny white tile and modern fixtures. A pleasant surprise if you were expecting an outhouse based on the exterior.
The blue dots are a real plus, looks like the iris are blooming. Also, NOT having the Mark Twain in frame means we can focus on other details, like the water gong. Clearly a bonus picture.
Photo 2 reveals a rarely seen vista of the Back of The Original Bank of America IASW Sign. No theming wasted here. I do like the scalloped edge of the Excursion Car canopy framing the scene with you-are-there goodness. A crowded Park, maybe a whole 20 minute wait for Small World.
Major, have a great time on your travels. We appreciate your thinking of us during your time off. Thank you for the pictures.

uh oh...Mark Twain employee with hands in pockets...must have not had "that" supervisor...Your pockets are a place where hands go to keep them flailing all around...or perhaps it was cold. That was a great restroom on TSI! I do remember that it was small, but very tiled and neat- despite it's outward appearance. I thought the blue dots were some sort of exotic flowering tree...until I started to see them on the waterfall too. Cascade peak is so much better than Big Thunder. I suppose I like more grey mountains that the orangey type. I know that Small World Fantasyland "packed" look. A parade probably just ended. Small world is one of those rides that gets "locked in" due to how the parade travels. So when those ropes go down..."KABOOM". Before that...you walk right in to the ride..IF you know the path. I love seeing the United Nations type umbrella in line waiting for a United Nations type ride. And there's a 10 gallon hat too! We invariably got more than a few complaints about "my country was not represented". Not sure how Mary Blair would have done the Andorra room or the Liechtenstein room...perhaps they are in there somewhere and I didn't see them. I would like to see the Monaco room...big yachts and palaces and whatnot. I don't see fudgie the whale, or a dent, but I do see square Skyway buckets...so perhaps that better narrows down a date/year. Sunday snoozers are always the best photos. Always some forensics to dig into! Thanks Major!
I think photo #1 is actually pretty good. Dual waterfalls, blue sky with puffy clouds. Even a CM thinking "this sure beats working the Teacups". :)
Pic #2 is what Disneyland looked like the last time I was there about 10 years ago. On top of that it was a 100 degree day. Fortunately we had Club 33 lunch reservations and spent the afternoon relaxing in splendid air conditioning.
Nice pictures today. The first one would make a nice panorama of Rivers of America, if only a panorama camera was used. I prefer Lysol over Windex to clean slides - less blue dots.
I always remember Small World's queue feeling like a mob scene in it's original configuration. It really moved along quickly though.
I'm still trying to find the dent in Cascade Peak, and count the trash cans on the Matterhorn - something to do today. A Happy Sunday to everyone!
Any picture of Cascade Peak is more than just okay!
