Blinking Next to the Sub Lagoon, June 1967
You can see why I had to post today's photos as a pair! They're not super exciting, it's fun to see this groovy gal posing next to the beautiful Sub Lagoon, filled with Bombay sapphire gin. I blink in about 90% of the photos taken of me, so I feel a camaraderie with this girl. I'll bet dad waited too long, fiddling with some knobs or something.
The second try came out perfect! Knobs were properly twiddled. The girl's short hair, Op Art dress, and frosted lipstick all say "1967" to me.

Today's lass looks just lovely - especially when she fixed her bangs, 'just so'. Kudos to the beautiful color, which gives off a decidedly 1960's vibe, as opposed to some of the extreme [yet almost beyond real] Kodachrome colors from the 1950's formulation.
I do wonder what the landscapers were up to, as the entire area behind "Julie" is nothing but a sea of dirt. It usually has some "greenery", if not a complete carpet of flowers and shrubs.

I sense a "Twiggy" influence here. Although I think Twiggy burst on the scene a couple of years prior to 1967(?)... Close enough.
It's not just the blinkety, blink eyes; it's also the fly-away hair, which doesn't look as attractive all mussed up. In the 2nd image, she'd make a good stand-in for Mona Lisa... except she's smiling too much. It needs to be more subtle.
Nice bright, saturated colors in these photos. They couldn't have been taken more than a couple of seconds apart because the CM at the Sub dock is squatting in both photos.

This cast member was known for doing leg squats while loading guests onto the Subs - so we can't be certain.

JB, we can also see in the first pic, that a submarine has maybe only it's nose in the waterfall. But in the second pic, the sub is more than three-quarters of the way in.
I hope that girl was able to see the Carousel of Progress that day, and all of the other attractions in the "New Tomorrowland"!

I have a feeling that NEW TOMORROWLAND wasn’t quite open yet when these photo’s were actually taken …. For one thing there is absolutely no PeopleMover or Autopia activity …. We also see the original Monorail Station which will be demolished very soon.
Major, have you ever had a reader or viewer write to you and say, "OMG! That photo you posted today is ME when I was 16!" or something along those lines?
Amazing how much info is present in a couple of photos of a pretty girl.

I used to take photos from near this spot with monorail, subs and people mover. You had to hang out some times to get them all.

Hi Steve, yes that has happened to me. It's two pics of the back of me, but I know it was me because of the hair, clothing and year the pic was taken. And I remember clearly talking to a cast member in length about Big Thunder Mountain Railroad opening soon in that spot. There's even a personal pic I provided to show the hair and clothing I wore that day.

I thought both stations weren't extended until 1969 with the introduction of the Mark III Monorail trains.
Nanook, if the Submarines ever go away completely, one of the things I am going to miss is that beautiful lagoon in the middle of Tomorrowland. As for the dirt, perhaps there was still some lingering construction for the New Tomorrowland going on?
JB, I think the “mod” dress is sort of Twiggy-ish. I think you’re right, I believe that Twiggy was famous at least a year or two before these photos. I wish that the Mona Lisa had a giant toothy smile with giant “too white” teeth. Then it would really be a legend. As for the CM… sometimes ya just gotta squat!

TokyoMagic!, I admit that I’m not 100% sure what a “bob” is, technically. Short-ish. With bangs? No bangs? Thanks to that submarine, we can use math to calculate that there was 2.7 seconds between these photos! We’ve seen this girl (and her sister) on the Autopia, but I also hope she enjoyed the Carousel of Progress.
Mike Cozart, did the New Tomorrowland open in stages? Maybe some things opened while others weren’t quite ready.
Steve DeGaetano, the only thing like that is when Ken Martinez saw himself (from the back) in some Mysterious Benefactor photos. He later sent a photo of himself wearing what appears to be the same hoodie, I believe it really is him in the MB’s pictures!

zach, I choose to believe that this lass is still with us and having a good life with people who love her. Notice in the upper right of the first photo, we can just see a bit of a Kodak “Picture Spot” sign, so a lot of people took pictures here! Kodak clearly found the best places.

This young lady definitely has a vibe...kind of a 1960's Plaid Tour Guide Vibe...although, I don't think she is one...but she could very well be. It's interesting that without digital technology they knew to take the photo again. Looks like they are at an official "photo spot"...you can see it there on the right in photo #1, also cleverly cropped in the lens in photo 2. I always kind of giggled when people would take photos in a photo spot where the dominant thing in the photo wasn't the scene or the people...but the sign that said "take a picture here". Agreed that the "new" Tomorrowland isn't fully operational yet: and it's nice to see the original Monorail station that gives great vibes with that awning over the subs. You joke about doing squats while working...but we did all do it...and calf raises too...anything that was fairly low visibility. When you are standing at an ice cream or popcorn cart all day: you need to move. It's not a job for the meek. Standing at attention all day is actually difficult....the slow days were kind of killer...so off squatting we went...the boys any way: not sure about the girls: they all had skirts as part of their costumes. For all costumes, even "Yellows"....I'm not sure when those trousers came along, but I'm sure they appreciated them. Main St. and New Orleans Square were both full length skirts...imagine pushing a cart from the Haunted Mansion to America Sings solo wearing a "maxi" skirt...not sure it would go over that well today. Frosted lipstick...totally forgot about that period of time: but it's kind of a cool look...I'd say the young lady gives more of a Judy Carne than a Twiggy....so "Sock it to Me!"...and if you are old enough to understand that, well....it's understood. Thanks Major.
