Snapshots

I'm using up the last three vintage photo prints that were part of a lot of about 20 images that turned out to be from several different Disneyland visits. Some were from 1965, but these are either from later in the 60s, or even into the 1970s.

Mom is a real live wire, she loves to smile for the camera, waving like a maniac. I approve of her enthusiasm. Three members of the Bucket Hat Mafia are also aboard, don't make any sudden moves or you'll sleep with the fishes! The Storybook Land hostess is standing, I don't think I've ever seen one that wasn't sitting "sidesaddle" on that little "roof".

There's mom again, I imagine she has a big Phyllis Diller laugh. She curses like a sailor, but that but that only makes her more lovable. Notice Rolly Crump's entry-to-Tomorrowland flowerbeds, making these photos post-1967 at least.

Here we are on another different day; Mom is wearing a different outfit as the family poses in front of the famous Senegal palm tree. I love that diamond-shaped Autopia sign in the background... I recently saw a website that stated that it was the best Autopia sign of all. I'm not so sure about that, but it's pretty sweet.

Major-
"Mom is a real live wire, she loves to smile for the camera, waving like a maniac".

Let's hope 'Mom' isn't running for political office, as her "maniac-like wave" might be misconstrued as... something else. She's definitely spent some time on that 'smile', as it appears to be identical in both images. Good job, Mom-!

Thanks, Major.

I think the Bucket Hat Mafia guy in the red shirt (Guido) is trying to be incognito. The Law is after him for trying to pass off Santa Ana oranges as Anaheim oranges just outside the Disneyland gates. For a snapshot, this is really crisp and colorful. Nice photo!

Major, I was thinking the same thing- big Phyllis Diller laugh. I like the zebra-stripe glasses on the gal to the right of Phyllis. Is that a "Photo Spot" sign on the right? Or something else?

Wow, I didn't know the Senegal Palm produced gondola-shaped fruit! Look at it just hanging there, ready for picking. It even produced PEOPLE in the bucket! Or a reasonable facsimile thereof. Looks like a kernal of popcorn on the ground. Or maybe it's a wad of gum. Or a reeeeeally small UFO.

Colorful, well saturated snapshots! Thanks, Major.

The Storybook Land boat has pulled up to the unloading dock, so I'm sure the hostess is standing, because she is about to help "unload" the boat. It also looks like she is standing on one leg, but I don't have an explanation for that.

I'm glad to see that "mom" has her mouth closed in the last pic. I was starting to think that was the only way she ever posed for a photo.

Nanook, maybe "mom" and the group had just seen Donald Duck in "Der Fuehrer's Face" in the Fantasyland Theater. A.I. tells me that particular film played in the theater on a continuous loop, from 1955 through 1982. ;-)

Thanks, Major!

The little girl in the first photo with the perfectly parted hair looks like she just saw an animatronic spider! Me? I'm crushing on the hostess as I always did as a kid. I think I see Donald Duck's bill on the left side of the photo. And is that a big earring on that young lady in that corner of the boat?

Thanks, Major, for the Phyllis Diller laugh echoing in my head. (Aha-ha-ha-ha-ha!)

'Jean' is a riot, and a joy to behold. Proud of her family sprouting out like that spectacular palm tree.

Mom might be hyped up on pills, or maybe just thrilled to be in the Park. Disneyland has a similar effect on me.

Yellow hat guy looks like my BIL, but about 50 years too early. I think the hostess is getting ready to step up on the bench to aid disembarking.

Three ladies enjoying a good laugh. Someone just told them a Spanish joke. “En Boca cerrada, no entran moscas…”

I’ve always admired that palm tree, I hope it is still in place?

Great pics, Major! Thank you!

Nanook, I can forgive mom’s unfortunate gesture, a split-second photo can do all kinds of mischief. Unlike certain other people on video!

JB, I think bucket hats should make a big comeback, I’ll bet models will be wearing them on the runways in Milan. Yes, those zebra-striped glasses are very cool, almost “mod”, and depending on when the photo was taken, maybe that was even in fashion. That gondola fruit looks ripe, just think of how sweet and juicy it is. I can’t ID the tiny thing on the ground, it might be a tooth.

TokyoMagic!, the last time I went on the Storybook Land boats, I’d forgotten that they asked the guests to all stand up at the same time. What would happen if they didn’t?? You’re right, that canal boat has either just stopped, or is just about to get going. “Der Fuehrer’s Face” is so weird, but I love that it is of it’s time.

zach, did you ever see the animatronic spiders in “It’s Tough To Be a Bug”? My nephew was about five years old, and when the spiders lower from the ceiling, he said, “It’s too much, mama!”. Gosh, I hope that’s not a big earring. You could fry fish on that thing. Phyllis Diller will always be a legend if for no reason other than her vocal performance in “Mad Monster Party!”.

MS, it’s funny how some people’s big personalities come through even in a humble photo print!

JG, where can I get some of those pills that mom had? They look like they were fun. I wonder if the yellow hat was a souvenir? Or did the guy bring it with him? I’m sure that Spanish joke is hilarious, but I’ll never know what you said! I forget if that Senegal palm is still there, I think it might be?

I always like being invited along on somebody's fun vacation like this, even if it happened fifty or more years ago. The young folks look like they might have been getting a little tired by the last picture, but I'm sure they were still having a great time.

"I’d forgotten that they asked the guests to all stand up at the same time."

Now I've got "Sit Down, You're Rocking the Boat" from Guys and Dolls running through my head!

Major, the Spanish joke translation as follows: "Flies don't enter a closed mouth."

JG, those drugs are also the ones that make you put ham in Jello. Come to think of it, I could go for that right now.
