SNOOZLES™

Snoozles. They were first discovered in the 18th century by Edouard Snoozle, and now they are omnipresent in our society, showing up on Instagram, Facebook, and other social media platforms.

This first Snoozle is from 1970, a somewhat gloomy view of Main Street Station. It's really not a bad photo, but it's a bit boring (in my opinion), considering how many much-better photos we've seen of the same subject. The flower portrait looks nice! And I'm always happy to see the Santa Fe logo on the train station.

From May, 1960 comes this equally-gloomy view from the Jungle Cruise; that python is slowly suffocating that tree trunk, and he will soon devour it with one slow gulp. I know somebody who had one of these Jungle Cruise pythons in their living room, it was quite a thing to see!

Major-
It's hard to clearly make-out the attendance number (maybe 85 million-?), and as DL hit its 100 million number in 1971, I'm gonna guess this image is from 1970, or maybe 1969.

Thanks, Major.

It looks like an evil sorcerer has swooped in and stolen all the shadows from Disneyland! Leaving it looking dull and flat. It's nice to see Floral Mickey fully grown in. Many of the floral portraits we've seen look pretty scraggly, they haven't grown in yet. I wonder if they ever experimented with using black (or nearly black) flowers for Mickey?

Major, that tree will give the python indigestion because the tree is fake. Then again, the python is fake too, So I guess it all balances out. The snake will get fake indigestion. At the bottom right of the tree we can see some of the mechanical apparatus (pneumatic hose or something) that makes the snake move.

Pretty good Snoozles, as Snoozles go. Edouard Snoozle would be proud. Thanks, Major.

The Kalamazoo Handcar elevates this photo to Snoozle Plus™! Thanks for leaving that for us to mention.

My wife has a snake phobia so I can't linger today.

Thanks! Major,

Dave

Major, thanks for clearing up the origin of Snoozles. I had thought them discovered by Sir Albert Snoozle on his expedition to the Backside of Boredom.

No. 1 is a decent pic of MS Station, and as noted, the floral Mickey is looking pretty good. The original color scheme is nice to see. That’s a good point about the flowers. As far as I know, alyssum have always been the portrait flowers. The borders and even the turf (which is now artificial like the snake) have changed over the years, but the purple and white are consistent. These are perennial, so need less work. Maybe that’s it?

That snake was discovered by Sir Albert Python (grandfather of Monty), it’s a rare pneumatic python, which are found far from an air hose. The Jungle Cruise has had so many minor scene changes over the years and it’s still brilliant. I wish this Snoozle wasn’t so blurry. It’s right on the edge of being a Blurzle.

Thanks Major, an enjoyable pair today.

Nanook, you are spot-on… I do mention that the first slide is from 1970! Still, your guesstimate was right there.

JB, I personally have had enough of evil sorcerers and wish they would get real jobs. Chick-fil-A is hiring! If you can say “my pleasure” to a customer, you are automatically hired. I’m unaware of any color flower being used for the black parts of Mickey other than violet, but the Chilean Death Flower should definitely be tried. I see that you are like me, and have great concern for the health and well-being of fake pythons. You can send money to me and I’ll make sure that it goes to the proper channels.

zach, I’m sorry that your wife suffers from “Slimydisgustingserpentophobia”, and I sure wouldn’t want to scare her. You are excused for the day!

JG, there is some controversy about the origins of Snoozes, since many like to take credit. But I have done extensive research, and spent 7 years in the Himalayas studying with Tibetan monks. I wonder if they will ever resort to artificial flowers for the Mickey Portrait? No water required, but they would need to be replaced regularly. Maybe they can change it to a mosaic? Or use Lego? Thank you for the information about that specific snake, you are more informed than David Attenborough.

That picture of MS Station has a lot going for. it - flat gray sky, cut off at the top... well, it does have a nice bit of the concrete wall below the floral Mickey.
If you want a python, you can just head over to the Everglades. It's chocked with ones released by pet owners.

Zach, I seriously considered getting Snoozle Plus™, but I don't want to pay yet another monthly fee.

In 1990 the floral Mickey was completely updated in shape by king imagineer John Hench - replacing the floral Mickey seen here.

Artificial turf is like putting plastic covers over your furniture : TACKY!!

MIKE COZART said...

And you should never have indoor plastic plants unless you are recreating a museum display , Lost in Space in a sound stage or building pirates of the Caribbean ….

Plastic and artificial turf is horrible for the environment … creating excessive heat, suffocating the soil, and sending plastic gas-offs into the air. Just used reclaimed or recycled water.. or be like barbara Streisand who spends 19k a month to keep her gardens and landscaping lusher and nicer than anything anyone else will ever be allowed to have! Lol!
