Months ago, I attended a local postcard and paper collectibles show, where today's snapshots were found. First up is this fun black and white image of the Tomorrowland Space Man, caught in the act of abducting a pair of typical hu-mans. He is anxious "to serve man". The Space Man is so tall and silvery that he reminds me of a dorky Gort. Klaatu barada nikto!
Now our Earthlings have traveled into the future. Behind them is some strange dwelling. Maybe it flies?! The future must be pretty great, everyone looks happy. Except for the atomic mutants.
I certainly hope the object our Space Man is clutching in his left hand is NOT a cigarette, Horrors-!
ReplyDeleteIt's...it's....it's a COOKBOOK!
ReplyDeleteSome nice earthling recipes sound good about now and these two look plump and juicy!
ReplyDeleteKinda tired of eating groundhog all weekend.
Immediately after the Spaceman posed for that picture, he predicted that Grandma would costar on a TV show as a kindly aunt living with a widowed Sheriff and his son. Then he snapped Grandpa's suspenders. It became his last day on the job.
ReplyDeleteLove the expressions on Grandpa and Grandma's faces in the first picture. If there were a thought bubble, it'd read, "Well, that's different."
ReplyDeleteWhat's that big white mound they're standing in front of?
The color photo might’ve been taken when Disneyland had two "houses of the future".
ReplyDeleteMelissa - I think the big white mound is part of the Rocket to the Moon building.
Nanook, I see what you mean, but I'm pretty sure he is not holding a cigarette! There's no way they would let a costumed character smoke, although it would be funny in a way.
ReplyDeleteTokyoMagic!, why whatever do you mean?
Alonzo, they look like fricaasseeing humans.
Anon, it's OK, because the spaceman went on to be a big basketball star.
Melissa, as K. Martinez says in his comment (!), that is part of the Rocket to the Moon attraction.
K. Martinez,.. two houses of the future??
The 'cigarette' is formed by the shadow of his thumb and index finger on his white uniform.
ReplyDeleteGraffer, in the future, cigarettes will be invisible.
ReplyDelete"Well, Herbert, when our grandson wanted to get into acting, I thought he meant Broadway -not Peoria, Street in Milwaukee."
ReplyDeleteI love the Spaceman, always wanted that job.
ReplyDeleteThanks Major.

If that is a cigarette in his hand, then that must be Rod Serling in the space suit.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I've never been to a postcard and paper collectibles show before, but it sounds like it would be a blast. I might have to find some in my neck of the woods.
