Two From September 1963

I don't have anything too exciting for you today, but hey! Maybe you are a fan of Skull Rock. I know I am. As much as I loved the old "rock", there is a part of me that wishes it had been built 4 or 5 times as large. Just imagine how cool that would have looked!

Geysers. Not to be confused with geezers. Why go to those crummy geysers in Yellowstone that smell like sulphur when you can have nice chlorinated geysers instead.

  1. I think if they can't and won't bring back the painted desert they should bring back the geysers.

They could make them one of those type of deals the kids play in like at the outdoor malls and such.

I've caught a wiff of some of the kids at Disneyland. Warm water, a little soap and that could be a very useful little attraction.

  2. I remember the distinct sound the geyser water made when it came back down and hit the ground (concrete?). Especially Old Unfaithful. Ah, the memories.

Great memory K. Martinez! I remember that sound as well.

  4. Alonzo, I think that either the Florida "Big Thunder" or the Paris version includes geysers, and they look awesome! Also, remember the giant marble and fountains in Tomorrowland? There were a lot of wet smelly kids there!

    K. Martinez and SundayNight, I have a live recording that my friend made when he rode the Mine Train, I need to go back and see if I can clearly hear the geysers.

  5. the Florida Big Thunder Mountain does have geysers. And they're all working again after a recent refurb!

  6. There is now a geyser over at the DL Hotel in front of the Frontier Tower, but it is a very sad replacement for the caves and waterfalls that used to be there. Here's a link (scroll down to the last five pics!): Disneyland Hotel Geyser

  8. One of the coolest areas of vintage Disneyland...I can smell the tuna!!

The geysers are cool, and so are Geyers (like me!)

  9. Melissa, thanks for the confirmation of the geysers at WDW... I am pretty sure they have them in Paris as well.

TokyoMagic!, oh yeah! I remember your post with those photos. I agree that the waterfalls and caves were better, but at least they put in something....

Snow White Archive, the only water I really notice is in "Pirates", but maybe I am just not paying attention!

Nancy, it really was one of the coolest areas, for sure.

Yes, Paris has a large beautiful geyser field, jut beyond Phantom Manor. Not sure they have worked in years. When exiting the ride, you could walk towards the geysers, through some crypts for a good look at them, which is mostly otherwise for the riverboats.

Where is Skull Rock? I don't remember seeing it there. This is an awesome picture, though! Was it only seen from the Columbia?
