Nice 50s Slides
Disneyland slides from the 1950s! They're hard to beat. Today's examples are really nice - starting with this great Fantasyland view, filled with the usual riot of colors and patterns. Overhead, Skyway gondolas move to and fro...
I kind of love this view of three coatless men posing just outside the entry gates (and near the ticket booths). This is not exactly the typical group of Disneyland visitors, I'd love to know why they are there together, apparently without spouses. They probably heard all about the Mad Tea Party and couldn't wait to check it out for themselves! A stiff breeze blows the flag over Main Street Station eastward, along with the men's ties. The bowtie is always impeccable.

Major-
"... with Holiday Hill (no Matterhorn yet) and the tallest of the Skyway support towers". AND... the tippy tippy top of the TWA Moonliner-!
I believe those three gentlemen are part of a barbershop quartet, and are waiting for the fourth fella to show up. Also not on view are any attraction posters - so we know this image can't be any newer than around June 13-15, 1956.
Thanks, Major.
Nice! Similar picture to yesterday's fine fotos. I'm still waiting to see a Skyway gondola swinging dangerously on the cable like we see in the Attraction Poster. ;-p Wait!... Somebody stole the Matterhorn! And they left behind a pile of dirt and rocks! I guess there's no hope of spotting a Bobsled... or Fudgie. Another Moonliner alert! Its pointy nose is sticking up from behind the castle. [Nanook beat me to it.]
These three guys look like they should be playing Alphorns. Playing something slow and elegant... like "Zip-a-dee-doo-dah". :-D They must be representing some group or company. They're all dressed the same: Brown slacks, brown shoes, white shirts, and ties. Except the one rebel sporting the bowtie, like you said. Even their ties are brown. Well, maybe not Mr. Bowtie's tie; can't tell.
My-T-Fine pics, Major. Thanks.
"I'd love to know why they are there together, apparently without spouses."
Major, the three men were there for "He-Man Woman-Haters Day at Disneyland." Spanky and Alfalfa were there that day, too.
These are really nice early Disneyland pics, Major. Thanks for sharing!
I love that first image — especially with all the Skyway buckets and the baby Matterhorn.
Thanks, Major.
I just wish it was more clear in the 1950’s just where wheelchairs and strollers were supposed to enter ……
Wow, these are all bursting with crunchy goodness (and vitamins!) I'm ashamed to say that I missed the peeking Moonliner on my first pass. One more mistake like that and I may have to turn in my Moonliner Spotters Card!
Those guys are the barbershop quartet, "The Chilled Out, Really Cool Dudes." They were good, but their name wasn't. From left to right: Elmer, Buford, and Ollie. Clyde (lead tenor) is taking the picture!
Wordle Spoiler Alert,
Today's Wordle word is near and dear to us here at GDB.
Another frozen in time frenetic scene today.
Thanks, Major
Nanook, yes, the Moonliner makes an appearance! Good eye on the lack of attraction posters (how could I miss that?!), it kind of looks weird without them.
JB, I think we have seen a Skyway gondola swinging wildly on very rare occasions - I hope those guests were escorted to the exit gates and given a kick in the rear! I love pre-Matterhorn shots, since that was only a 3+ year period where that was possible.
TokyoMagic!, I guess I was confused because the Woman-Haters were not giving the high sign!
Lou and Sue, yesterday’s picture might be a bit more spectacular, but I love the lack of Matterhorn!
Mike Cozart, that sign is pretty hard to miss.
Stu29573, Stu29573, don’t turn in your Moonliner Spotters Card, one more punched hole and you get a free Pepsi! Your comment reminded me of the “5 Neat Guys” from SCTV.
zach, I’ve never played Wordle, I don’t even know *how* you play it. I’m a crossword puzzle guy! Is the word of the day “churro”?
I wonder if those gentlemen's wives are the ladies we see walking away on the right? Are we witnessing a midcentury breakup at the gates of Disneyland?
"Well, I say good riddance, Fred. She didn't have to call you a cheapskate in front of that giant mouse for not buying the whole goshdarn book of tickets. I mean, you ARE a cheapskate, but there's no need to air dirty laundry in front of the vermin."
"Pete, you ding-dang fool, I don't care about the money. I just ain't gonna ride on no Mark Twain riverboat. Ruth knows my Ma carried on with Mark Twain back in nineteen-ought-six!"
"That wasn't Mark Twain; that was the milkman! Not every jasper in a white suit is Mark Twain!"
"Well, Frank's just afraid Hazel will find out he didn't really serve with Donald Duck in the Navy."
"That duck saved my life at Guadalcanal!"
"Oh, cram it, Frank, that duck was 4F! He spent the war in South America making movies for the Good Neighbor Policy!"
"We coulda been eating fried chicken and boysenberries right now."
Yeah, yeah, I realize the men are about 20 years younger than I'm making them out to be. They just kept getting older as I wrote and there was nothing I could do about it.
Haha! Thanks for the soap opera episode, Melissa. Probably not "The Young and the Restless"... Maybe "Days of or Lives".
Days With Our Wives
The wordle word for today is Major!
Zach, I never played Wordle before, so I just now googled it. How cool is that! The word “Major” IS today’s Wordle game answer. If tomorrow’s word is ‘gorillas,’ we all need to buy lotto tickets.
“Days With Our Wives” - Ha!
Stu, you just reminded me of Carol Burnett’s soap opera spoof: “As the Stomach Turns”
Photo 1 is splendid, great color and detail, and in focus!
The guys are visiting the park after the Insurance Sales Convention. Before the Convention Center. Did the Disneyland Hotel have meeting rooms yet?
Great Friday views, Major, sorry I’m late.
