Fantasyland Scenes, March 1961

Here's a couple of "different" photos from Fantasyland. They're not amazing, but at this point I'll happily take different.

I never really thought about it, but I honestly can't remember any other photos in my collection taken from aboard a Storybook Land Canal Boat just as it was about to be eaten by Monstro. The woman has been swallowed by whales dozens of times, this is no big deal.

Just west of Monstro you'd find Skull Rock; here's another "different" view, an interesting side angle from the pathway that led back to the dining area behind the Pirate Ship. We get a good look at the profile (such as it is) of Skully, a bit of that dining area, and even Cinderella's Castle from Storybook Land.

Wow, the vegetation in the new Skull Rock Cove area hasn't had time to get lush yet. And we also get a blurred glimpse of Casey Jr. in that second pic!

Thanks, Major!

Entering Monstro's cavernous, toothy maw reminds me how scary that is to little kids... like me, when I was four, seeing this same view. To be fair, we had just gotten off the Jungle Cruise a few minutes earlier, and I was already a nervous wreck from the chargin' hippos, the pistols bangin', and the Skipper yellin' at the top of his lungs, "Look out! They're charging!". The JC spiel was very serious in those early days of the park. And now we have to go through monstrous Monstro's mouth?!?!? We'll be chewed to pieces!

Hmm, I'm having a hard time seeing Skully in that photo. Are we seeing just his lower jaw with the 'drool' spilling out between his teeth? I like the red and black 'pirate' trashcans. They're quite striking!

Thanks for re-igniting my early childhood trauma, Major. ;-p

JB, I think you are right about what we are seeing. Major did say, "such as it is."

Major, you could have named this post, "The Maws of Fantasyland"! :-)
