SNOOZLES™

Everyone loves Snoozles! 4 out of 5 dentists recommend Snoozles for their patients who chew gum (for some reason). That fifth dentist can kiss my grits!

These pictures are from July, 1964, and both are in Town Square. It's late afternoon, and I have the sneaking suspicion that the lady with the blue polka dots is heading out the parking lot. WHY? There's plenty of fun to be had. What's your hurry? Are you rushing home to watch "Bewitched"? Trust me, you'll have plenty of opportunities to watch it in syndication.

To the left are two boys who are dressed identically, which will please Melissa. Are the boys twins? One is a bit taller than the other, so I'm going to say "no".

Oh boy, Polka Dots has a big bag of somethin'. What could it be? Perhaps a Pendleton shirt. I like this view with the C.K. Holliday at rest above the west tunnel, and the balloon vendor trying to make one last sale as folks filter out of the park.

Oh Major - isn't it obvious: Dippin' Dots-!

Thanks, Major.

Not only are the two boys dressed alike, the two gentlemen to the right of them are also dressed the same... and one of them seems to be taller than the other, like the boys. The kids also have identical balloons. And it looks like Dad is doing something with the balloon string. Everything about these two boys is identical: the black cowboy hats, the mouse ears; everything!... except the boys themselves. Why go to all the trouble making them identical, when they aren't? Maybe they ARE twins, and the one on the right stunted his growth by smoking two packs of Camels per day.
Oh, and there's that mound of powdered sugar on top of that building again.

Looking at the crowd in the second pic, geez, there are a whole lot of people dressed the same, or nearly so. To the right of the balloon vendor there are two girls/women in pants who are dressed the same. To the left of the vendor, there are two (or three) women in gray(ish) dresses with black(ish) prints. Over on the right edge, there are two boys (or father & son) dressed the same; one is leaning against that post. Maybe this was "Near Twin" day at the Park? Melissa is gonna swoon!

Thanks for the heapin' helpin' of Snoozles, Major.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Back Side of the Lady in Polka Dots!

I love how that one little buckaroo has a cowboy hat *and* a Mouseketeer hat! He's probably wearing two pairs of underpants, too. And is it just the angle, or is their Dad really, really tall? Get that feller over to Tomorrowland and stick him in a silver space suit

Yes, the twininess of this picture is very satisfying

What an odd pair of photos, I’m going to be charitable and not suggest the photographer was stalking Dot Lady (I’ll call her Dot).

Two, count them, two pairs of twins, it’s like a Wrigley commercial.

There’s a smidgen of a “Welcome…” something or other banner across Main Street. Major, Could this be the “Welcome Lutherans” banner you posted some time back?

I see a hitching post and one of the C&H type drinking fountains too!

Thanks Major!

JG

In the first pic, the man on the far left (near the drinking fountain), looks like he has a duck sitting on top of his head. But I know it's the top of a lamppost. He also has two American flags sticking out of his ears.

Happy Snoozley Sunday (tm)! These are fantastic photos. They actually look like a costume designers RE-CREATION of 1964. There are some good ones in here: of COURSE...Miss Polka Dots...with friend Herringbone, fur collar, and heart shaped glasses, and straw hat....of course the Double Mint twins: both new and old, with giant size dad tie-ing balloon string to wrists before they go sailing away. The balloons, not the twins. The young twins not the old. Just want to be clear here. Fun pink Disneyland bags with fun font that you don't see very often. Balloon vendor in distance, with a panoply of great costuming, especially the white sleeveless on left, with scalloped edged, or peter pan type cut edge of skirt (Melissa knows) dress and patent leather handbag. There's a Fred MacMurray wanna be there with Donna Reed wanna be with Patty and Cathy...the Duke twins...or are these cousins? Identical cousins? They may walk alike, and talk alike...two of a kind... Might be...everyone looks pensive, while daddums is staring at a Tour Guide coming out of City Hall. I speculate. The banner states that they are welcoming someone...and these banners continued through my day for private parties...as a kid I visited on "Foresters Day"...I honestly will have to look that up...the memory just came to me. It was an odd experience if I remember: going to a bus in Torrance CA, and then odd people on a bus...and an odd guy handing out ticket books...I'm not sure why I'm registering it as strange...but when I look up "Forester" I may find out. Thanks for the Snoozes (tm) Majoozle!

The truth is that the two identical gentlemen ARE the two identical boys! They are proof that our mutual time machine project finally works! I've done my part and come up with the name: The Gorillatemporalitron! (tm). Now the rest of you- get busy!

Our photog is so excited about those rare red bags, that he pivots to watch them coming and going clutched by shoppers - before handle holes were invented.
Double mints twins are quite a sight.
Yes, apparently 1.5” above the knee was The length for skirts that year…in a time when fashions were Dictated to the masses, but before spirit jerseys and ear-bans reign.
Sweet to see little coveralls holding hands with both grandparents who have otherwise completely different things on their minds.

Nanook, believe it or not, even though I have seen Dippin’ Dots stands at various malls, I am not really sure what the hell they ARE. Some sort of ice cream treat, but… as dots?

JB, hmmm, maybe it was “Bring your taller (or smaller) doppleganger to Disneyland Day”? I’d love to bring a shorter version of myself to the park. But not a taller version, I’m tall enough as it is. Just try getting into those little dark ride vehicles, it’s embarrassing. Smoking two packs of Camels doesn’t stunt your growth, but two bottles of gin will! I can’t explain the fact that so many people dressed alike, except that UFOs were seen in that area right around the time the photos were taken.

Melissa, I had to check to see if you were kidding about the kid with two hats. I thought maybe he was wearing mouse ears on TOP of his cowboy hat. Like I would do.

Dean Finder, what about THREE hats?

JG, you could be right about the stalking, I have seen a number of photos over the years, clearly taken by creepy guys who were following cute gals. There was one that was so creepy that I never posted it (honestly), without going into details. I’m just assuming that Lutherans are welcome every day at Disneyland, which will make my dad’s side of the family very happy. I never realized how strict Lutherans could be until I got older. Long story.

Tokyomagic!, if I had a picture of a man at Disneyland with a duck on his head, I would consider myself the luckiest boy in the world. The flags are for tired birds.

Bu, “fantastic” seems extreme, but I appreciate your positivity. Does anyone wear polka dots anymore? And why are they called “polka dots”? Any tie to the music/dance? I remember when I used to chew Wrigley’s Doublemint, it was my second favorite after Fruit Stripe Gum (which was also by Wrigley’s). I liked those little multicolored Chiclets too. I confess that I swallowed them. “Panoply”, is that like “Monopoly” only with a frying pan? I wish I looked like Fred MacMurray, I’d smoke a pipe and call men “sport” and have a wife named “Peggy”. I wish Disneyland had a sign that said “Welcome Weirdos”. Just for me!

Stu29573, this is why I like real science; the wonders of the Universe, right before our eyes! As for that name…. chef’s kiss.

MS, yeah, I only own one or two tiny versions of the red/pink bags, they do seem to be pretty scarce for some reason. Older bags are much more common. I don’t know what a spirit jersey is, but it sounds scary. And “ear-bans”?? I like my ears and won’t give them up, I don’t care what the fashion police say.

Anonymous, I like your original idea better!

Eureka! The banner reads "WELCOME DOPPLEGANGERS!" on PolkaDoppleganger Nights!

JG and Major - that reminds me of the 1964 World's Fair promo film "To the Fair" that includes two pert young women followed by two men through the whole picture. The guys were wearing sportjackets, so I guess you were supposed to think they were OK.

Dippin' Dots are little pellets of ice cream flash-frozen in nitrogen. You eat them with a spoon like cereal. They were in vending carts all over our local park and at Canada's Wonderland.

Stu, time travel! It all makes sense now! Billy Pilgrim and his twin brother Billy have come unstuck in time, reliving fond memories of the past and savoring the challenge and promise of the future. That explains little Billy's two hats - when he bought his first hat, he already had his second hat he bought tomorrow.

Bu, I hope the sign company didn't charge by the letter!

Dean Finder, I clicked on your link and realized that I have seen that promo film. it's really wonderful! Funny about the guys following the girls, I guess the filmmakers thought that it was a cute framing device, but it IS a little odd seen through our 2023 eyes.

Melissa, whoa, that's not what I thought Dippin' Dots were at all! I thought maybe it was like a bonbon, and maybe you literally dipped them in sauces. I sort of want to try it, but am not sure where they sell Dippin' Dots anymore. "Slaughterhouse Five", one of my favorite books. So it goes!
