Sleeping Beauty Castle, October 1967
Well, it's time to use up a pair of scans that are perfectly OK, it's just the kind of thing that we've seen 18 kajillion times. Sleeping Beauty Castle and Pizzeria. Try the breadsticks with the cinnamon dipping sauce!
This one's a bit askew, and yes, I could have straightened it right out with Photoshop, but that would mean that I'd have 10 seconds less to devote to my soap operas. And we might find out who the father of Prudence's baby is! DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND? The castle's ivy was thriving. Why not replace it with kudzu, says I?
There it is again, looking much the same. Which is to say that it looks great!

Never tire of seeing Sleeping Beauty Castle and it's still my favorite of all the Disney castles. Both of these castle shots are postcard worthy. Thanks, Major.
Major-
Our purse-toting gal seems a bit confused. Perhaps she's doubting the compass points nearby. Or maybe she caught sight of the now 'infamous' dent.
Kudzu - the name for my next goldfish.
Happy Sunday, Major.
Major, this may be the 18 kajillionth time we've seen the Castle, but this is probably the first time we've seen great aunt Pauline (in the foreground). Her and great uncle Leroy (he's the photographer) drove all the way from their Kansas farm! It took three days! And this is the first, and only, time they'll be visiting the Happiest Place On Earth. Pauline came prepared; she's wearing her finest orthopedic socks and sensible shoes.
And, while we can't see them in these photos, the swans are planning their next ambush. It's been two days since their last 'meal', and they're feeling a might peckish.
Nanook, I forgot to look for The Dent; and there it is! In image #1. Not very noticeable though.
Thanks for letting us see the Castle for the 18 kajillionth time, Major.

The lady in the foreground of the first pic, looks like she stepped right out of the 1950s. She needs to trade places with mutton chops guy, from Friday's "1959" post.
K. Martinez, I think SBC is my favorite too, but I have to admit that I am very biased! Not only do I love it, but I love all of the history going back to 1955.
Nanook, that poor woman thought that Disneyland is where Walt Disney lived. “Where is he? I made him some of my liverwurst candy”. Or else she saw the dent (as you suggested). Kudzu is a good name for a goldfish!
JB, Pauline and Leroy, the Bonnie and Clyde of their day. Only they never robbed any banks, and never fired any guns. But they DID once go to a buffet that was a great deal for your dining dollar. I’ll bet that there actually were people who drove VERY far to go to Disneyland, I hope that the anticipation made their visit even better. I never worry about swans because I wear my anti-swan underwear. I’m glad you enjoyed these photos of the castle!
TokyoMagic!, I can picture her in one of those broken down trucks like you might have seen during the Dust Bowl. Piled high with chairs and Beanie Babies, like in “The Grapes of Wrath II: Still Wrathing”.
These are excellent views, even above average. Sharp, clear, good color, and no spires cut off etc.
The zig-zag roof pattern over the chapel (borrowed from St. Stephens in Vienna) shows very clear today. Dick Van Dyke and the the Chimney Sweeps just dusted it off.
Of all the Disney “weenies”, this one is the best.
I heard Barbie was going to star in “Grapes of Wrath III: The Wrath of Ken”.
Thanks Major.
JG
Imagining the Castle covered in kudzu reminds me of Fort Wilderness campground at WDW. Kudzu everywhere. I swear you could hear it growing at night.
JG, not sure I’m buying into the whole “Wrath of Ken” concept. Based on the first comment today, he seems pretty content to me.
Lots of great vintage clothes in today's pictures, but Grandma Bobbysox takes the cake with a scoop of Sealtest vanilla bean ice milk.
"Wrath of Ken"
I'm not sure Ken can work up much of a wrath with that frozen smile.
Every year on Epiphany, I put up a "Three Kens Day" display. Here's this year's model.
Melissa, that's brilliant! Am I correct in assuming that you made all the clothes yourself?
Melissa, Three Wise Kens! You are creative! Thank you for sharing your picture.
I see The Dent! Thank you, Major.
D dent, D dent!
Best banners too.
Major, my dad drove us about 950 miles to Disneyland (and back) twice. Once in the '50s and again in the '70s. Not quite as far as Kansas, but far enough!
I'm sure that before WDW was a thing, lots of people drove at least 1,500 miles or more to get to Disneyland, stopping at other places along the way.
“The Grapes of Wrath II: Still Wrathing” was an OK book and movie (get it? OK, as in Oklahoma) especially the part with the Beanie Babies. And JG already mentioned "The Wrath of Ken", which was better than "Still Wrathing". But the next sequel was a real rotten tomato, "Wrath IV: Ma and Pa Vs. the Martians".
Melissa, I love your display, especially the hay rakes and the bits of straw on the floor (or are those scratches? Caused by the various animals, like the floor of CBJ?)
I read The Grapes of Wrath in high school. I never saw the movie.....or any of those sequels. But I do enjoy the Jane Fonda-hosted cooking show that they inspired, The Crepes of Wrath.
