Devlin Family Photos - Part 15

We're getting down to the last of the Devlin Family Disneyland photos - there are just a few left from the 1980's. But never fear, there are more photos from other parks to keep us going for a while.

Meanwhile here are the final few from January 1965 (probably mis-dated as I believe that they are earlier than that). This first one is unusual in that it shows one of the Frontierland Indians (in a rather spectacular costume) hanging out in Town Square! Truthfully he might have been standing right beneath the Frontierland sign, but still, it looks a little anachronistic.

He and "Mama" appear to be having a friendly conversation, probably about cookie recipes. That's what grandmas always talk about, right? Or he is telling her that he has a Master's degree in Business Administration.

We're still in Town Square, and the Disneyland Band has made a surprise appearance. You probably know them by now, but from left to right we have Devlin family members Mary Jo, "Ama", Mama, and Grandad. The bag that Grandad is holding is suspiciously "souvenir guide book" sized!

Thanks as always to the Devlin Family for sharing these great photos.

Hey, GDB readers... once again, I will be going out of town for a few days. As always I will check in as often as I can, to respond to comments and generally make a nuisance of myself. I'll return on Sunday!

Major-

I'm fairly certain "Mama" and the indian are discussing pie crust recipes and the virtues of using Vodka along with ice water for producing dough which is moister and more supple than most standard pie doughs. And it also looks as though the recipe 'exchange' was taking place at the Hub.

Thanks again to the Devlin's and The Major.

Glad to hear there are more Devlin family photos coming.

Before digging into the details I thought the first pic was from Knott's Berry Farm. I remember Native Americans in the Indian Village, but not roaming around the park back then. In the last few posts featuring Mama I've noticed her broach which looks like a little silver starfish. Very nice. Grandma dressed very tastefully.

Again, thanks to the Devlin Family for sharing these wonderful photos and thanks to you too Major.

Nanook, I learned all about that vodka pie crust trick in a cooking magazine that my mom gets. Pretty clever - and I always have a few dozen partial bottles of vodka around the house.

walterworld, thanks!

K. Martinez, I honestly can’t think of another photo of one of the Disneyland Indians in a place other than Frontierland. Also, Mama’s starfish pin could be used as a shiruken, just in case ninjas ever attacked

There was footage and photos of an Indian chief who helped Walt dedicate/open the Grand Canyon Diorama on the Santa Fe & Disneyland Railroad at the Tomorrowland Station. Other than that I only remember them being at the Indian Village.

I'll say it again: kudos to all for enjoying a day at the Park without the kids tagging along.
