Cascade Peak, April 1962

Cascade Peak has been gone for about 11 years now, and I still miss it! You didn't ride it, and except for the splashing waterfalls, it didn't "do anything", but it sure was a striking visual element along the Rivers of America. As you can see, the Mine Train passed beneath the lowest (and largest) waterfall, cooling riders just a bit on a hot summer day. The mechanical mountain goats are gone at this point, although you can see where one of them cavorted up near the top. I wish they'd left them there, even if they remained motionless!


In this slightly more distant shot, you can see the Pack Mules heading for the base of the mini-mountain.

    I didn't even REALIZE Cascade Peak is gone. That's what I get for moving out of the area and not visiting the Park in almost 20 years.... :)

    I wonder if Mickey will even remember me??

    One thing that makes Disneyland as enduring of a success is that you don't just go for rides you go for the whole experience and even most of the rides are more of an experience than just a ride. Cascade Peak is one of those elements that first served as a ride element but also could and did serve as part of the overall park experience.

    I feel they should build a new one either as part of a new Nature themed attraction or renovation of Big Thunder, bringing a line over the trail, a new bridge over the pond and swing around in front like the Mine Train did, of course at more of an angle and higher speed. It'd bring Big Thunder more attention being seen at the river front like that... I have to wonder why it wasn't incorporated when Big Thunder was first designed.
