Snoozles™
I'm using up more of the (sadly) big batch of too-dark slides. I'm not proud of it!
Not only is this one too dark, but it's boring too. And it's a little blurry. And it smells like old onions (you'll have to take my word for that one). I love the mighty Columbia sailing ship, but it doesn't look so mighty when it is berthed in Fowler's Harbor. A Keelboat sits nearby, like the Columbia's little brother. Or rather, "sister", since it's the Bertha Mae.
And oh man, this one is just weird. The photographer accidentally placed his Ray Bans over the camera lens. You'd be surprised how often that happens. The result is a fairly terrible photo; I assume that the two boys are assuming "searching the horizon" poses, or else they are saluting me (Major Pepperidge) in acknowledgment of my heroic service during the Cola Wars.

Major-
I like the 2nd image, as it's the perfect example of a 'cloudy-bright' scene. (If the boys are saluting, they need to coordinate which arm is to be used, as the Indian chief offered little help ...)
Thanks, Major.
Major, Pic #2 must go in your next Instructions for Beginner Photographers book….
“To get the best natural shot of your subject, make sure they’re looking directly into the sun.”
Columbia: Blurry, yes. But I don't think it's too dark. (Did you lighten it up a bit?) Wonderfully warm, saturated color! Plus it's got that 'blue sky' factor. Woulda been nice to have a little less water off the bottom of the pic, and more mast at the top, but oh well. Yes it's a Snoozle (because of the blur), but it's a nice Snoozle.
OK, now this one IS too dark! Too dark to see details. Do you really think the boys are engaged in an 'Indian searching the horizon' pose? I guess they either do that pose or the 'cross your arms in front of your chest' pose like yesterday's Knott's pic. I just noticed that the kids are raising different arms up to their eyes. Maybe the boy closest to us is a lefty.
I see Nanook also noticed the different arms. Are they saluting or shading their eyes?
Bottom pic is definitely a Snoozle. Top pic... maybe. Thanks, Major.
The paint on the Chief's shoulder appears to be chipped. I know Chuck is going to tell me it's because the Chief is a Chippewa.
Thank you for the Sunday Snoozles, Major!
Look how the trees have grown up in only nine years! Good soil in Anaheim. I bet citrus would do well there. Too bad somebody built this amusement park over all of it.
I like the Columbia pic, the Captain is home since he has the window open. He said he was going to get bug screens for those.
Photo 2 is a minor tragedy, could have been something really nice. It is a decent portrait of Chief Cohiba however. I had my picture taken with him on my last visit and my hat brim shaded my face too. Maybe it’s something about gravity in that spot? I didn’t notice his businesslike dagger before. I wonder if this Hard Fact has survived into today’s Park?
Thanks Major, dark photos today, but never too dark to enjoy.

Yeesh! That last one looks like it was shot day-for-night.
While Chief Cohiba and his identical twin brother, Chief Dutch Masters, over in Frontierland are familiar Disneyland sights, you never see their wives. That’s because they both married shy Annes.
TM!, hey, that’s my line! I Ottawa Sioux you…
The Columbia sure has a nice spanker! (Can I say that on a family blog?)
Nanook, it’s recommended that soldiers salute with different arms so as to confuse the commies!
Lou and Sue, my mom is always so critical of photos of herself as a child, because she is always squinting into the sun, with her head tilted in a particular way. Once she pointed it out, I saw that she was right!
JB, I lightened up the first photo somewhat, but it quickly got “gray” so I couldn’t go too far. It’s not as bad as the second one though! “Woulda been nice to have a little less water off the bottom of the pic”… I just acquired a batch of slides, so many of them are 2/3 pavement or river, I don’t know what happened there. I do think those boys are just trying to not be blinded by the sun, but you’d think that the bright parts of the photo would be *way* too bright. I guess the photographer dialed down the aperture or something. I do wonder if one boy is a righty and the other is a lefty.
TokyoMagic!, “…because the Chief is a Chippewa”. Ha! Chuck will love that one.
JG, think of all that rich farmland that is now covered with mini-malls and houses! Oh well, food is overrated. The open window kept things cool while the Captain played his bongos. I’m glad that there is still a Tobacco Store Indian, even if there is no longer a Tobacco Store. He must miss the scent of smooth Virginia tobacco! I’ll bet that he still has his dagger, and that most people don’t ever notice it.
Chuck, yes, it really does look a “day for night” shot! “Shy Annes”, THE PAIN.
Steve DeGaetano, this is your first strike! ;-)
