Two Tomorrowland Beauties

I have a pair of beauties for you today! Starting with this Skyway view from August, 1962. It is POSTCARD WORTHY! I suspect that the picture was taken a few months earlier, but one never knows; I think of Summer days as being cloudless and the skies as almost a milky-white. It's a swell view looking down on Tomorrowland, with the Astro Jets, the Space Bar, the Melvyn Douglas Moonliner, the Wenmac Flight Circle, and in the distance, Melodyland.

Next is a scan from a slide dated "July 4th, 1964". July 4th?? It was a Saturday, and the park was open from 9:00 AM until 1:00 AM.  Temperatures - a high of 80º, and a low of 55º. Attendance was 60,917 - pretty durn crowded. (Thanks as always to Jason's Disneyland Almanac for these statistics). A woman poses by the Clock of the World, surrounded by State flags and attraction posters. There's not a cloud in the sky! Perfect for nighttime fireworks.

Melodyland looks like they accidentally put Space Mountain too far away. "I dunno, Earl. The blueprint clearly says to put it right here."
Beautiful photo. Just think of all the copper that went into that Skyway gondola! ;-)

This is an exceptionally sharp and clear photo featuring the Clock of the World. Several NASA guys in this pic, but I think they're all guests. Mildred, shading her eyes, is asking her husband Earl (all the guys in today's pics are named Earl), "Let me know when you're going to take the photo." Earl, "I just took it!". Mildred, "Oh for land's sakes. I had my hand up, trying to see if you were ready to take the picture!"

The title of today's post perfectly describes the photos. Thanks, Major.

Wow, postcard is right, what a great photo. I didn’t know Melodyland was that old, there’s nothing else out there!

I wonder what the globe displays showed in the Moon Rocket lobby? I don’t recall such a clear picture of those, usually that area is in deep shade. Were these like the little dioramas in the ATIS?

Thanks Major!

Oh, I meant to mention the World Clock too. Marketing should resurrect this as a cocktail shaker or perhaps a little desk clock souvenir. Another great pic.

Thanks Major! Did we get two posts today, or did I miss one?

JB, I think a lot of people new to the Disneyland area saw Melodyland and thought that it must be part of the park. I tjust looks that way. Re: Mildred shading her eyes - - I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had a person squinting in the sun for a photo. You want the sun on their face, but meanwhile they’re blinded. Somebody must win!

JG, I don’t really know what those globes showed, I assume that they each had little dioramas (as you suggested), or perhaps photo displays.

MS, you said it!

JG, it should be no surprise to anybody that, yes, I did screw up. Not long ago I realized that today was Irene’s birthday. “Oh, I should do a tribute to her! I’ll move the already-completed Friday post to some other day”. Well, I did one, but not the other. I guess I’ll have 367 posts this year (being a leap year)!

Both terrific images, today. That first one has so many wonderful things going on...even a couple ostrich plumes and a Mickey Mouse balloon, too.

Major, we don't mind when you add an extra post. More to enjoy, thank you.
