Cute Gal is back! And she's no longer in Frontierland; instead she has moved on to Tomorrowland. Hooray!
"Honey, I want to take another photo of you!", her husband said. She sighed patiently and smiled for the birdie. If she wore Air Jordans, she could have leapt up and touched that Skyway gondola overhead - but her sensible flats won't help her in that regard. The Autopia is to our right, but I somehow find it hard to picture her driving one of the little sports cars. I could be wrong though.
"Honey? Honey? I need to take another photo of you!". We see the Clock of the World (flanked by the Avenue of Flags). She stood on the curb because she's self-conscious about her height, but her hubby thinks she's just perfect.
Major-
ReplyDeleteI see 'Mr. Orange Skyway bucket' has his gaze directed straight at 'Ginny'. He knows where the action is-!
In the 2nd image, 'Ginny' is making nice with the dwarf French marigolds. (She should be clutching the stem of one between her teeth for full effect-!
Thanks, Major. (It's lovely to see 'Ginny' so bright-and-early in the new year).
Ah, the cigarette is back. I was getting worried; her going so long without a "Take a puff, and it's Springtime!".
ReplyDeleteI think Wile E. Coyote is skulking nearby. He's gonna drop that Skyway gondola on our Ginny, mistaking her for a roadrunner, I guess.
I'm pretty sure we can see bits and pieces of Fudgie back there in the waterfall.
Fred Mertz is photo-bombing the scene on the right.
There seems to be more 'olives' on those 'swizzle sticks' than usual. The group of guys to the left of center are all dressed pretty much alike. And they're all looking at their phones, including the Tall Lady.
Nice to see our gal in Tomorrowland. Thanks, Major.
It appears that maybe Ginny hadn't bought her hat yet, when the first photo was taken.
ReplyDeleteHer bangs and spit curl seem to change, throughout her Disneyland photo shoot.
Wasn't the Richfield eagle on a taller pole at some point? Or was it only the one above the Fantasyland Autopia, that was up so high?
I like how the sideways view of the General Dynamics sign (second pic), makes it look like there is a stray Skyway bucket, stuck on top of a post......sort of.
The bottom shot may have been taken looking into a mirror - the AT&T Circarama building should be on the other side of Cute Gal!
ReplyDeleteAck - never mind - I see my error. Please delete my remark, if you like. :)
ReplyDeleteGinny must have smoked a whole carton of cigs on this visit. Every shot she is holding a fresh one.
ReplyDeleteTokyo, maybe she bought the hat in Tomorrowland between photos ?
Possibly 7 trash cans in photo 1, and 2 very old-fashioned drinking fountains with booster steps.
She has checked her height against the red stand, “You must be this tall to have your photo made here.”
Now I’m curious, we’re there any photos taken on this trip not featuring Ginny?
Thanks Major, a bright start to the year.
JG
Ladies and gentlemen, the backside of he Autopia sign!
ReplyDeleteCan somebody with better eyes or more institutional knowledge tell me what that arrangement of three bent red pipes is? Some kind of teleportation booth, I assume.
I wonder what all those people in the second picture are photographing? Is there some other elegantly-posed lady off to the right?
Thanks for the the new installment of this day at Disneyland. Knowing it's all the same day adds an extra jigger of You Are There.
Photos of Ginny...I think...maybe getting odder and odder...just saying...so many pictures. I dated someone when I was an actor, and for a joke a "shrine" was made to me with many headshots around candles, and other accoutremont. I had to say to myself, "ahh...another weirdo"...such in the life in LA. It was actually a take on a gag I had contributed to a somewhat well known sitcom...where the lead character thinks someone is a catch, and then finds out his own shrine in the basement. This was also recreated in an episode of Everyone loves Raymond with a normal person who ate flys and was obsessed with frogs. All I can say is "you're welcome". There are no original ideas. I hope the photo taker did not make a creepy "Ginnyshrine" and can only hope for a photo OF the picture taker one day. The empty Park looks lovely, and if those mid century things were alive today they would be worth a fortune. It seems that Ginny was a ballerina, as she is practicing her pointe there amongst the marigolds. The Jayne Mansfield poses are priceless, Ginny actually needs her own book. Ginny or...a Ginny offspring...needs to come forward and claim herself...we need to know who Ginny is...well...I would like to know who this lass is. Note on original Skyway buckets....it always looks like there are single riders in them. Does an original bucket still exist? Was the bucket super small? Was there a weight limit? All good questions. Happy DAY 2 of 2023! The 100th Anniversary of Walt Disney Productions....and the Roy guy. That relationship is a movie in the making...perhaps it is already.
ReplyDeleteNanook, yes, that fellow has a gaze reminiscent of a hound dog. Dwarf French marigolds? They look like normal ones to me! (I didn’t know there was a dwarf variety).
ReplyDeleteJB, that smooth Carolina smoke goes perfect with every occasion, whether it’s a christening, mowing the lawn, or yes, enjoying a day at Disneyland. It’s been so long since we’ve seen Fudgie that I kind of forget where he lives, exactly. More elusive than Nessie. We need to bring back the olive-on-swizzle-stick lamps, people don’t know what they’re missing.
TokyoMagic!, either that or her husband was holding her hat? Yeah, probably not. I think you’re right, the Richfield Eagle might have been displayed on a taller pole. Or are we both thinking about the eagle in Fantasyland, which definitely was on a taller pole?
Hogarth, I was going to say something, but I see by your next comment that it is not necessary!
Hogarth, it’s OK, it happens to everybody.
JG, as you know, there is nothing like lighting up a fresh cigarette. Hard to explain. I am sure that Ginny bought her hat at one of the Tomorrowland souvenir stands, maybe over in “Hobbyland”? Not sure if that was still there in 1962, now that I think about it. And yes, there are a few “non-Ginny” photos, I’ve shared some, including the view of the Matterhorn star that was backstage. We’ll eventually see one single photo of Ginny’s husband, too!
Melissa, as JG pointed out, that thing with the red pipes is the “you must be this tall” gizmo. It’s clever, I guess on crowded days they could potentially have three kids measuring their height at the same time. The people in photo #2 are looking at their cell phones. Glad you enjoyed these!
Bu, I like the photos of Ginny, but it IS a bit odd. So darn many! I guess she was a good sport about it. I’m dying to know what the “somewhat well known sitcom” was. I know, it was ALF! Joking of course. “Friends”? “Golden Girls”? I am ashamed to admit that I have never seen “Everybody Loves Raymond”. And I generally like Ray Romano, so I don’t know how that happened. With the overcast and gray lighting, it looks like it should be cold, but Ginny does not seem to be uncomfortable, even in March. She’s a trouper. I really would love to hear from anybody who knows anything about the woman in these photos! I guess I would need more than 11 readers though. As for the Skyway buckets, I don’t know if they were moved to another park, or if they wound up in the scrapyard. I’ve seen many of the rectangular gondolas, but never one of the round ones. Does anybody remember what kind was wrecked by the Yeti inside the Matterhorn?
ReplyDeleteReminds me of a story I heard about the Rockettes - they had two marks on the wall right net to the door of the audition room so they knew as soon as she walked in if a prospective new dancer was too tall or short.
ReplyDelete@ Bu-
ReplyDeleteThe original Skyway buckets had two, affixed 'chairs' inside. Hence the "reduced" capacity of the round buckets.
Major-
I want to say there were both 'round' and 'rectangular' buckets up there in Yeti land. OH, MIKE...
Major, there is one round and one square Skyway bucket in Harold’s junkyard inside the Matterhorn.
ReplyDeleteA thought as I view the AIԳOTUA from this angle…I’m glad that the Richfield Eagle is just as gastronomically correct at the birds in the Tiki Room.
And…yay, Ginny!
My recollection was a newer square bucket, but Mike will likely know for sure. As for Ginny...let's face it...there's a lot a VA VA VOOM that should cure any male hangover. That said, I have come to the conclusion that she had modeling training as he stature always highlights her profile. Few pictures of standing directly in front of the camera. Something you are taught. KS
ReplyDeleteMy mother had to take both elocution and deportment classes as part of the secretarial program she did in high school in the 1960's, so it doesn't surprise me to see Ginny doing more formal poses in Disneyland snapshots. One of my favorite stories Mom used to tell from those days is how the head teacher of the program would inspect all the girls' clothes every day to make sure they were all starched, pressed, and mended with no runny stockings of scuffed shoes. Even when they changed the school dress code to allow girls to wear trousers on Fridays, the girls in the secretarial program still had to wear skirts and stockings. And a safety pin was an automatic demerit. Then there was that one day when that same teacher popped a button on her blouse only to reveal that her bra was held together with a safety pin. Poetic justice!
ReplyDeleteMelissa, I hope they had a trapdoor with hungry alligators right after the markings on that wall!
ReplyDeleteNanook, I’m sure that being able to fit four people in the rectangular gondolas was a huge reason to switch over, even though I thought that the old round ones were pretty cute. One of each gondola, interesting!
Chuck, thank you for the link to that photo; I wonder if they had to make that round bucket from scratch, or if they used a similar gondola from one of many Skyway rides across the country? Or… could it be a genuine Disneyland gondola? I hope not!
KS, ha ha, Mike is on vacation. He’s laying on a white sandy beach with zinc oxide on his nose and a tropical drink in his hand. I agree, Ginny seems to have some sort of showgirl training, or something like that.
Melissa, ah, those were the days, with elocution and deportment. I never had anything like that, and I suspect the young ladies I went to school with did not either. Too bad, we’ve got generations of uncouth yahoos (I include males in that batch of course). Did your mom go to a regular public school? It sounds pretty strict, but maybe that’s how they were back then. Why were safety pins verboten? Unless they were in a person’s nose, ha ha. I hope that teacher with the popped button went to Sing-Sing for 100 years!
NANOOK: the yeti has a wreckage pile with BOTH skyway cabins as well as different type bobsleds …. However they are all created prop pieces created for the scene - none are actually ride vehicles … EXCEPT for a section of 1978 bobsled.
ReplyDeleteGinny is now the most common slide taken at Disneyland …. Right behind the Mark Twain!
BU: was the sitcom NEWHART by any chance? When the town recluse turns out to have a shrine of Dick Louden’s (Bob Newhart) wife Joanna ….. ( Mary Fran) …. With hundreds of photographs of her and a Mannequin of Joanna in the center with one of her signature sweaters !???
Unless my screen is blurry or my eyes are bad, I don't see a wedding ring on Ginny's finger, so you guys are in luck. I sure hope we now don't see a wedding ring on the photographer's ring finger!
ReplyDeleteFun photos, fun comments, today!
