Neither of today's photos are that exciting, but they convey and nice sense of the relaxed, parklike atmosphere that Disneyland could have if you were there at the right time of the year. Look at all the trees! So green and lovely. The Monsanto House of the Future is to the left, and I even enjoy seeing the trash can and little mail box. Wouldn't grandma love a card from you, sent from the Happiest Place on Earth?
This family looks like they are straight out of an advertisement, especially with the little boy wearing Mouse Ears. They're walking toward the circular planter where the "Partners" statue would eventually be placed. The "Avenue of Flags" can be partially seen; notice the pink and orange construction wall to our right, where wondrous things were about to happen in Tomorrowland.
Here's another angle on the same area (more or less) - it looks like it was a perfect day at Disneyland!
Gee, that's how Disneyland looks today......with hardly any guests!
ReplyDeleteAnother photo that I would love to jump right into! Well then again, I wouldn't mind jumping into really any picture of Disneyland... great work as always. I really like those umbrellas with the fringe on top on the Hub.
ReplyDeleteThree fashion items I love in the last picture: the full-skirted shirtwaist dress at far left, the hard-shell white purse held by the blond lady in the foreground, and the couple in the background on the right where the gentleman has a red shirt and tan slacks and the lady has a tan shirt and red skirt. That's coordination, my friends.
ReplyDeleteThe first pic reminds me of the "A Day at Disneyland" videos I used to purchase from the park. Always a family with a child sporting Mouse Ears shot from the back a they walk off unto the sunset after a joyous day at Walt's Magical Kingdom.
ReplyDeleteI wonder where that little blonde girl in the lower right corner of the last pic is today? She's about the age of many GDB'rs. Thanks ,Major.
Staring at these pictures is a great stress-reducer. Sunny California day, no crowds, lots to see and do . . . at a leisurely pace . . .
ReplyDeleteThat cute kid in the MM ears, beautiful landscaping and flowers, clean sidewalks, and the waste basket and mailbox - make that a true "trademark" Disneyland snapshot!
Thanks, Major, for lowering our blood pressure a few points, today.
Sue
I'll echo all those regards. Being a sentimental older person has it's perks. That's the Disneyland I choose to remember. Thanks Major.
ReplyDeleteI love all the comments in this thread, and the photos too.
ReplyDeleteSums up my feelings.
Thank you Major, and everyone.
JG
Ah....peace! Those times are few and far between now... Sure the profits have gone up, but at what cost to the overall guest experience?
ReplyDeleteTokyoMagic!, was that your experience? Mr. X went on Tuesday and said crowds were light, though he was only there fairly early in the day.
ReplyDeletePenna. Andrew, the umbrellas required one “C” ticket.
Melissa, yes, everyone looks so neat and tidy, just like Mickey would want. The “red & tan” couple really have it all worked out.
K. Martinez, I’ve heard of those “A Day at Disneyland” videos, they’re probably on YouTube these days. The little girl to the right looks just like my sister did at that age!
Lou and Sue, I’m sorry you’re under so much stress! Is it because you’ve heard that “The Office” will be leaving Netflix in a year or two? Glad you liked todays pix.
DrGoat, I agree, this is the Disneyland that I would love to visit if I had that darn time machine.
JG, you’re welcome!
Stu29573, I had a “trip report” from Mr. X, and he was overall fairly happy with his trip, though he found the new “dancing band” to be a disgrace, and he said the popcorn carts were filthy. Still, I expected it to be a lot worse than he said!
That's encouraging! Maybe I'll make a trip out west after all!
DeleteMajor, I went to Disneyland two weeks ago, because I didn't have to pay to go in. Boy, climbing over that barbed wire was a real pain and I'll never do that again. I'm kidding, of course.
ReplyDeleteYes, just as Mr. X informed you, the park was really light, crowd-wise. I don't even remember the last time I saw it that light.....in the nineties, perhaps, and during "off-season."
Dumbo was a "walk-on"!!! When have you ever seen Dumbo be a "walk-on"? Casey Jr. and the Mad Tea Party were walk-ons, as well. Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, Big Thunder Mt. R.R. and Pirates of the Caribbean were all only 15 minute waits. The new M.F. ride in Wookie World had only a 35 minute wait time, which was 15 minutes less than the wait for Space Mountain, which had the longest wait time of the day, at 50 minutes.
And this was on Labor Day Weekend! I kept hearing all summer long, that the crowds were very light and that the wait time for Space Mountain was generally longer than the wait time for the new ride. I think that speaks VOLUMES!
stu29573, there are never any guarantees at Disneyland, but if you manage to go in the off season, you might luck out. Fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteTokyoMagic!, ha ha, I have always dreamed of sneaking in to the park (I’d wear a hard hat and a yellow vest and carry a clipboard), but of course would be way too chicken to actually try. Funny that you mentioned Dumbo being a walk-on… Mr. X said, “I wish my grandkids were with me, there was no line for Dumbo!”. That IS very interesting about the longer lines for Space Mountain, wow. Of course, that is a great ride, even after all these years. It’s still one of my favorites. I’m glad you had a good time!
That picture of the Postcardworthy family was so nice, I had to run it through the Artsy and
ReplyDeleteSchmartzy filters.
Melissa, thanks for sharing those! I love 'em!
