I have some strips of black and white negatives that I believe are from the late 50's - or possibly the early 60's, though it's hard to tell for sure. The B&W makes everything look antique!
Both of these are kind of snooze-worthy, but they can't all be winners, can they? For some reason our photographer seemed to be interested in the squirmy boy hanging on to the fence. The boy and his mom only show up in these two photos, so I don't think the photographer was related.
"When are we getting on the ride? Where's Mickey? What's going on over there? Are we going to eat soon?". Etcetera. Dennis Hopper's brother Fred is giving us the stink eye.
Major-
ReplyDeleteNot enough folks these days give a really good 'stink eye'. It's truly a dying art. And my vote for the timeframe is the mid-late 50's.
Thanks, Major.
Squirmy kids are as much of a Disneyland tradition as Dole Whip and churros.
ReplyDeleteI thought Dennis Hopper's brothers were named Clod and Grass.
I also vote for late 50s. The two women on the left are wearing seamed hose. The woman next to the boy on the right is wearing seamless hose. The very late 50s was the transition period and by 1960 they were virtually all seamless. Love your description of the boy, I just wish I still had all that energy! Thanks Major.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's definitely the late 2050's. It's nice to know the future will be so black and white. Thanks, Major.
ReplyDeleteWhen I wear tights I prefer seamed ones. They tend to be more expensive, but they fit So Much Better.
ReplyDeleteLOL, stink eye... LOL
ReplyDeleteNanook, when Lee Marvin died, the greatest master of “stink eye” left this Earth!
ReplyDeleteMelissa, Clod and Grass are Dennis’ full brothers, while Fred is a half brother. He was the inspiration for Frank Booth.
Jonathan, seamed hose, that’s a good clue! I would have never noticed.
K. Martinez, I know it’s just a typo, but “the late 2050’s”! None of these people are wearing silver lamé, so it can’t be 2050, ha ha.
Melissa, I’m surprised they still make seamed hose, since I would think most people don’t want to have to worry about keeping the seams straight.
Connie Moreno, hi! Where have you been?
I'm more confused by the adult man wearing a baseball cap. It seems odd for the 1950s.
ReplyDeleteDean Finder, I believe the gentleman is wearing a "golf cap". They were quite stylish back in their day.
ReplyDeleteI get them from dance catalogs, so it may be that they're not on the general market.
ReplyDeleteThe "diamond" pattern in the man's shirt to the left looks very familiar. I would date these pics no later than 1964 since it seems to take about a half-decade for the major style features to percolate enough to make them obvious in any random crowd shot. This opinion is purely based on informal research on GDB and is not academically peer-reviewed.
ReplyDeleteThe kid probably has to go to the bathroom.
