Here are two "Sunday quality" (in other words, "not great") photos, featuring views from on board two Main Street vehicles.
Perhaps the most exciting part of riding the Horse Drawn Streetcars is when two streetcars pass each other in the middle. Be sure to stick your hands, arms, feet and legs outside of the vehicle! The horse has seen it a million times, and is not interested.
Next, we are aboard one of the horseless carriages; this affords a better view of a busy August day; maybe the number of guests is proportional to the number of people who have decided to walk in the street! I recently watched a video taken aboard the Omnibus, and I don't think I could handle driving one of those vehicles. People just stand in the street without a clue, even when they hear the "Aaa-ooo-gah" horn. Nevertheless, I like this colorful, bustling view of Main Street.
Major-
ReplyDeleteWhat - no brick pavers-??!! What could those Imagineers have been thinking-? The second image is just about picture-perfect, in terms of crowds. It's a beauty to behold.
Thanks, Major.
Major, I wonder if the guests....or the horses, ever "high-fived" each other as the two Streetcars passed (like you suggested might be possible on your Nature's Wonderland Mine Train and Disneyland Railroad photo from last month). Are these two photos from "Fun Mom's" 1967 Disneyland trip, by any chance?
ReplyDeleteIt's a lazy Sunday on Main Street. Look at all the flower prints and we even have a mini skirt. Pretty crowded today, but a good time was had by all. I love the antique transportation, they make Main Street look more authentic."Groovin on a Sunday afternoon". Thanks Major.
ReplyDelete"Sunday quality" or not, these give you a "you are there" feel to them. I particularly like all of the crisp, clean signage. Both images are Chuck approved.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the older couple holding hands in the second photo. They're right under the signs for the Candy Palace and the Coke Corner ("Refreshments").
Nanook, brick pavers weren’t invented until 1961, when Milton Levine thought of the idea. It made him more money than his famous potato guns and ant farms!
ReplyDeleteTokyoMagic!, it is totally OK to high-five from one train to another, but doing so from passing streetcards just isn’t done. Rules exist for a reason! Yes, these are from the famous “Fun Mom Codec”, which they were all talking about at the royal wedding.
Jonathan, I do get a kick out of those 70’s fashions. It always makes me think of the Sears catalog. Now I’m going to have that Young Rascals song stuck in my head - and that’s not a bad thing.
Chuck, you are too kind - I like today’s photos, but can acknowledge their flaws! I did not notice the couple holding hands; you see that once in a while in old Disneyland photos… I wonder if they held hands all the time, or if the park brought out the kid in them?
I occurred to me after looking at these magical time capsules, for the which thanks you Major, that they were taken in opposite directions. Also they are just ideal reference shots for folks seeking to place which Main Street businesses where and when. I'm happier than when I woke up. Maybe these are my "time Machine" and that's it.
ReplyDeletei like the high-five idea :D We never rode down Main Street...too busy walking in the street!!
ReplyDeleteI still say its a Walt Disney World thing, We always walk in the street.
Thanks for the sunny views
