Steve Stuart's Disneyland Files, March 1961

It's time for two more slides from Nanook. You know, Steve Stuart! We're back at Disneyland.

A word from Steve: Here’s a [solo] shot of me standing along the railing of the Monorail Load Platform - again from March, 1961, obviously with the Matterhorn in the background – then featuring its many active water features-!  The sweater, which we’ve spotted in other shots, I believe is a ‘cable knit’ sweater, and I remember it well.

Man, I would give anything to have a photo of myself and the Matterhorn when I was the same age!

Seated just this side of the Petrified Tree in Frontierland is my aunt and Mom.  Off to our right is the Golden Horseshoe Revue, with bits and pieces of ‘the little mining town of Rainbow Ridge’ scattered-about in the background.

I particularly like this great portrait of two important ladies in Steve's life.

Thanks so much to Steve Stuart. Next time... more P.O.P.

  1. Awwww, and it looks like your mom is holding your sweater for you in that second pic, Steve. 'Cause that's what mom's do for their kids.....along with a whole lot of other stuff! These were obviously taken in the summertime, because there is a major lack of snow on the Matterhorn. ;-)

I love how everyone is dressed so nicely in the era, as opposed to the rampant 'thrift store sale' look so unfortunately common when one goes to the parks these days. Wonderful pictures!

  9. Concur all, Steve. Your dad really knew his way around a camera, and it doesn't hurt when you have great subjects to photograph. :-)

TM!, all of those active water features were due to the snow melting.

  10. Dear All-

Yes - both my mon and aunt were 'classy-looking ladies'; although it sort of ran in the family. There does seem to have also been a bit more 'class' back in those days that everyone ascribed to. Once again, there's that happy mid-point somewhere which can suffice for most situations, that has sadly been abandoned these days for something more along the lines of "complete tackiness", that would barely be at home in a flop house.
