Snooze Sunday, September 1963

Hoo-boy, today's slide scans are some kinda boring. Don't think I haven't noticed! That's why they're appearing on a Sunday, when all of you are out doing something fun.

I love old Cascade Peak, but this is not the best picture of it. That being said, it's a whole lot better than what's there now (which is nothing). A lot of photos from this era seem to have a degree of vignetting - the image gets darker at the corners. Presumably this is the result of having an inexpensive camera? Believe it or not, this is how it looks after I've improved it.

I love the Snow White Grotto too; just not this photo. We're too far away, there's too much trees and not enough grotto. And admit it, don't you wish you could go back in time and move the camera just a tick to the left? I knew it!

  1. Major-

I don't often share any skeletons from our family closet, but I too suffered the same sort of vignetting at just about that same time. Those were dark days, let me tell you-!

You know - I gotta say even just a 'blah' image of Cascade Peak is alright by me. (I can almost hear the water splashing down and feel the mist on my face. Ahhhhhh). It more than makes up for the poor composition of the Snow White Grotto image.

    Thanks, Major.

  2. Snow White must have been singing at the moment, because the spitting fish have risen up to the surface of the water. Actually, one of them looks like it might not have been spitting.

  4. "Water, water everywhere; and all the boards did shrink..." Water features simply rule.

  5. Nanook, I have to agree re: Cascade Peak… we’ve all heard that it needed to be torn down because it was in such terrible shape due to years of water damage. WHY didn’t maintenance staff seem to have any clue that there was a problem until it was too late? Carelessness, I suppose.

TokyoMagic!, that one fish is just too polite to spit. He should be commended.

    Scott Lane, uh, what?

Patrick Devlin, sure, water features are cool, but what if there were GRAVY features?

  12. Whenever I see one of those amazing Disney man-made "natural wonders," it makes me think of that line from Hamlet which talks about the purpose of art: "to hold, as 'twere, the mirror up to nature."

  13. TokyoMagic!, I have never seen that movie. Also, I hate cute puppies.

Chuck, you saw a show that featured a step to the right?

Connie Moreno, oh my gosh, where have you been??

    Scott Lane, TokyoMagic! gets EVERYTHING!

DrGoat, I actually knew what he was referring to!

stu29575, I think I mostly know that song from hearing it on Dr. Demento.

    Melissa.... Hamlet who? ;-)

  15. Major, I'm not a huge fan of the movie. I have only seen it once all the way through. I do like some of the songs and maybe the first hour of the movie is okay, but it drags on (no pun intended) for too long. I tried watching the new made-for-TV version that aired Sunday night. I didn't think it was any better or any worse than the original.
