Here are two more scans from a small batch of 1966 slides that have turned very blue in the intervening years; for some reason I seem to have better luck adjusting slides that have turned red - not sure why. Anyway, they both look weird, but they'll do for a Sunday.
Above the Submarine Lagoon we can see the "Nautilus" cruising through the shallows. Pretty soon it would dive to crushing depths, where guests could view underwater volcanoes, the lost city of Atlantis, mermaids, and so much more. At the top of the image is the Fantasyland Autopia.
Mermaids! I think the altitude must be getting to me. I'm always happy to see mermaids, even if they are a figment of my imagination.
Major-
ReplyDeleteIt does look as if someone walked-off with most of the Yellow layer. The images look more akin to some early examples of Cinecolor, a two-color process. But our imaginations can fill-in the missing hues - especially on this holiday weekend.
Thanks, Major.
Was Mermaid Rock an original feature of the lagoon, or was it added later?
ReplyDeleteIf you're going to have a little extra blue, lots of water are you want to have it. So cool seeing the cars and truck darting in and out of the trees.
ReplyDeleteLove the red-and-white striped Autopia canopy reflecting pinkish on the monorail track/beam. Thanks, Major.
ReplyDeleteNanook, it’s so strange how different films tend to have at least one color layer that fades the most. Nobody really thought about how well they would survive, especially in 50 years.
ReplyDeleteChuck, as far as I know it was always there, since there were mermaids when the subs opened in 1959.
Melissa, you are right… the trouble is, there is also lots of blue everywhere else!
K. Martinez, it seems as if stripes were mostly reserved for Fantasyland; I can’t think of too many other places where you would have found them (though I’m sure there were exceptions).
Major, Like the red-and-white striped canopy for Fantasyland Autopia, the Tomorrowland Autopia had a blue-and-white striped canopy. I think shortly after New Tomorrowland both Autopia canopies were painted all white.
