Today we continue with the Devlin family photos that may or may not be from January 1965, despite the date stamp.
Once again, "Mama" and "Grandad" are the stars; here they are, posing with the Matterhorn, which looks particularly striking as it gleams in the morning sunlight. I think I spy a single Bobsled (right at the top of the waterfall). Notice the Monsanto House of the Future, just visible. Grandmother has her coat, because it is bound to get chilly as the day goes on.
From morning to afternoon, we get this warm, colorful photo of Fantasyland as seen from the Skyway. The grandparents are in the bucket in front of us (Grandad is waving). Even the Rocket to the Moon and the red Monorail made special guest appearances here!
Many thanks to the Devlin family for sharing these wonderful photos.
Major-
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to top the second image, as it contains so many little 'gems' - including the warm tones of the image, itself.
Thanks to the Devlin family & The Major.
It's always nice to see grandparents at Disneyland. I remember my grandma coming along with us to the Park several times. She'd sneak in her cheese sandwiches and eat them at the Tomorrowland Terrace while we munched down our delicious moonburgers. She wouldn't have it any other way.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Nanook. The second image is great. Love the Toad shield above the Mr. Toad's Wild Ride entrance. It looks just like the one hanging on my wall only bigger. The clouds on the horizon add to the photo too. Thanks again to the Devin family and Major for this wonderful photo series.
Mama is well-equipped for the obvious cold - just look at the snow cover on the Matterhorn!
ReplyDeleteGrandparents at Disneyland are awesome. My dad's parents took me on my first visit, and my wife and I took my mom and her mom in '95. My grandmother rode Splash Mountain on that visit - at 91!
Agree that that second is a beaut - the "Golden Hour" of a clear day at Disneyland in whatever pre-Douglas-Moonliner year it was.
Thanks again, Devlins!
I agree with all the second photo is a "where's waldo" kind of Disneyland bonanza. Perfectly framed, monorail, rocket, pirate ship, C.O.T.S. logo w/mermaid, Toad Logo, Carosel Canopy, Devlin peeps in bucket and I can't really tell but what looks like a bobsled just over the waterfall.
ReplyDeleteAwesome shot! Thanks to Devlin family and Major for sharing.
Oh boy, "golden hour" indeed! You could wait all day for lighting like that. In fact, you have to wait all day for lighting like that.
ReplyDeleteAwwwwww! I have very fond memories of trips to Disneyland with my grandparents, and even one trip with my great-grandmother. My very first ride on Space Mountain was in the front seat with my grandfather sitting next to me!
ReplyDeleteMore thanks to the Devlin family for sharing their pics with us.
Just wonderful, thank you Patrick and Major. Such memories.

Nanook, that’s a good one! I sure wish I had pictures of my own grandparents at Disneyland, but sadly, no such luck.
ReplyDeleteK. Martinez, I think my grandfather was the bigger Disneyland fan; in fact, once he passed away my grandma never went back, even though she lived another 20 years. I remember when those repro Fantasyland shields were for sale, I kind of wanted them, but never got around to buying any.
Chuck, you never know when a sudden Alpine snowstorm will fall on Disneyland!
Alonzo, as I said in my commentary, I am pretty sure that is a bobsled at the top of that waterfall. I’m amazed at how often you can see at least one bobsled… just shows how often those vehicles cycled through.
Patrick Devlin, with my billions of dollars, I can BUY a “golden hour” whenever I want!
TokyoMagic!, wow, how lucky you were to go with your GREAT grandmother. Amazing. I still remember my grandpa making me feel brave enough to ride the Haunted Mansion for the first time.
JG, I knew you would like these!
It's amazing that my eagle eye spotted the bobsled but my Forest Gump brain glossed right over the comment in the text. See what 60hr work weeks will do to a guy.
ReplyDeleteThat second shot has so much going on in it that it almost looks a bit like one of the Major’s April Fools Photoshops.
ReplyDeleteAwesome stuff, thanks Devlins!
