Beautiful Tomorrowland, August 1961

HAPPY 2015!

I love this first photo; this view of the Matterhorn is somehow extra dramatic, looking up past the Yacht Bar (barely visible to our left), past the Monorail beam, with the old Skyway buckets moving to and fro through the tunnels; there are waterfalls cascading, and lots of guests milling about at the bottom of the frame. Fantastic!

This next one is a typical (but still nice) view of the Rocket to the Moon (notice that the "TWA" has been removed from the Moonliner, because the company stopped its sponsorship of the attraction in 1960). To our right is the "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" walk-thru, which explains all of the nautical flags.

I would like to wish every GDB reader a year full of happiness, health, and prosperity.

I also like the kid pointing at us in the future. Thanks for another year of happy updates!

Major-

Have to agree with D Ticket - that little girl is definitely pointing towards the Future. I'm afraid in her case, she'll have to wait until 1967.

Thanks, Major, for another year of wonderful views in and around this great land of ours. Happy 2015 to you and all the followers of GDB.

I find it a little eerie that the signal flags in the second shot spell out "Happy 2015 Major". It sums my sentiment too.

Patrick Devlin stole my thunder - which is cool by me. Great set of photos today, which makes a great start for the new year! Thank you!

"PULL MY FINGER, FUTURE!"

I think it's the angle of the Monorail track that gives that first shot the extra drama.

Thanks for another year, Major! And all the regular gang, too. You never fail to brighten my day, even when I don't have the energy to write a comment of my own.

Another instant classic! Bright, sunny busy and full of gaseous children and preoccupied FBI agents. The second one is postcard/viewmaster worthy for sure. Thanks for all you do and starting off another great year.

Happy New Year to all the GDBr's in this 60th Anniversary Year.

Thanks for the New Year's wishes, everyone!

D-Ticket, I only wish the girl was using the famous two-finger point that Disneyland tour guides use!

Nanook, maybe she's pointing toward the bathroom? In a way that IS pointing toward the future.

Patrick, it's so funny, I actually considered trying to see if those flags communicated some sort of message. You can look them up on Wikipedia. But I was too lazy. I'd like to think that Walt personally oversaw that message to me!

Chuck, I'm sure you have stolen more than a little thunder over the years! It all evens out.

Melissa, I wonder how old most people are when they learn to NOT pull somebody's finger? These days kids learn that life can be cruel all too early! Happy New Year to you too.

Alonzo, I thought that was Don Draper, not an FBI agent. Thanks for your comments and your photo contributions (some still pending)!

Major, I did look those flags up and they don't spell anything. But what a missed opportunity for a hidden Mickey!

Nancy… thanks!

Patrick, I figured as much, but considering that the morse code at the Frontierland train station was for real, I held out a little bit of hope. Oh well!

Hey Major, thank you so much for all the blood sweat and tears you put into this blog. I know it requires a lot of hard work and creativity, and although I know it is a labor of love, it’s not something I take lightly. God’s blessings to you this New Year!
