More Murk, January 1965
It's time for more dingy darkness and murkety murk. We're almost done with these weird ones.
I've always wondered what it must have been like to ride the Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland at night. This photo gives an approximation of that! Look, up above - there's a ferocious mountain lion, ready to pounce! Gramps doesn't seem too concerned, but then again, he's crazy.
There's been an oil spill in Tomorrowland, and everything is covered with a thick coating of gooey crude. Just like the Exxon Valdez! Only this was much worse. The sub lagoon took years to clean.

Major-
Hey, it's Murky-Lurky-! You know, no matter how 'dim' an image from (The Western) Mine Train Thru Nature's Wonderland might be, it's still a grand sight to behold.
But, poor Tomorrowland - it surely looks down on its luck. I think they need some sort of fund-raising telethon.
Thanks, Major.
Heavens to Murgatroyd! More murkiness awaits us. There's seems to be some sort of electronic signaling device in the cavern up ahead.
Thanks, Major. You've become quite the murkmaster.
Murky Lurky! My mom makes a Thanksgiving leftover called "turkey lurkey". Tomorrowland looks like a nightmare version of itself.
K. Martinez, I am happy that these very dark slides are almost done (though I'm sure I'll find more just like them). I noticed those red lights, does that mean "Don't Proceed"? Or maybe they were just there for looks. I AM THE MURKMASTER!
"Grandpa, that mountain lion is NOT going to pull your finger!"
After the tragic Tomorrowland oil spill, the boys were lined up all the way to San Diego, waiting for their turn to volunteer to wash the lagoon mermaids in dish soap.
I rode it as a kid and I remember it was very beautiful and magical.
Mermaid washing done cheap.
Don't recall the MTTNW at night. Hard to believe I might never have done that... I thought maybe it closed at dusk like TSI. But jedidad says he did, so must have been open. Good to know, thank you.
I do recall the JC at night, which was not so great. The boats had lamps on the roof, but it was sort of weird. Never did that again.
I think that is a rare Western Red Eye Rattlesnake, known to frequent train tunnels in amusement parks, virulent poison bite, instantly fatal to audioanimatronic miners, but harmless to human visitors.

Melissa, Grandpa *does* have that look on his face… and I would be right there in that line with the other boys.
jedidad, I remember it too, though not as vividly as I wish.
JG, I thought that it closed at dusk too, but I’ve read about how the train would stop in the desert during fireworks, allowing a unique view for lucky guests. Imagine how neat that would have been! The Jungle Cruise takes on a whole different vibe at night. The skippers operate spotlights, I forget if there are additional lights on the boat. I liked it!
The tunnel lamp informed Mine Train ROs that there currently was another train in the Rainbow Caverns building. We rode the attraction at night all the time... even in the rain at night. Super fun. Thank for the post!
