Miscellaneous Knott's Selection

I have some random scans of vintage Knott's Berry Farm slides… nothing amazing, but still fun to look at.

The whole family has gathered around this lady as she hopes to strike it rich while panning for gold. After doing it 200 times in a row, she had enough for a ring. Love those glasses!

Seals are kind of cute, but boy oh boy, are they freeloaders. Fortunately, all they want is little dead fish and not cold hard cash. Notice the rooster acting as a sentry guard, ready to pounce at the first sign of trouble.

Antiques, eh? What kind of antiques? Looks like lamps, glassware, ceramics, and (I'm guessing) cast iron knick-knacks. But you never know, there might have been occasional eclectic objects that would have appealed to me… tin toys from the 1930's or something like that. If only I could walk into the picture to see!

  1. I don't trust that rooster. He looks kind of mean. From his high vantage point if you walk by him it looks like he would peck-ur-head.

As for the seals, I heard they had to go on Nutri System after they left the park, lousy sardine moochers.

Panning for gold shots are always welcome. Thanks for posting.

I don't recommend trying to walk into that picture. If you're successful, you might never come back - and we'd miss you.

  3. I agree, Chuck! I think a lot of us would be in that dilemma, even tho it would be a good one to have!

I love the antiques shop as well. The warm glow inside is so inviting.

Somehow I never imagined that Old MacDonald had seals on his farm.

Panning for gold at Knott's...say no more!

Thanks for the fun fotos today!

Now I've got a whole new verse for "Old MacDonald" running through my head. I'm sure Melissa could do a much better job with the subject matter, though.

  6. 1.
Vintage twins! My mom and her twin sister would have been a few years younger than these girls, but they remind me a lot of their old pictures.

    2.
He's a roofster! (Sharp eye, BTW!)

It's a good thing they had him stationed there, because chickens are great at breaking up fights between other animals.

    3.
I'm betting there was at least one haunted antique jar of jam in that thar shop.

    4.
Old MacKnottald had a park, E-I-E-I-O.
And in this park he had some seals, E-I-E-I-O.
With an “arf, arf, FISH!” and a “FISH! FISH! Arf.”
Here an “arf,” there a “FISH!”
    Everywhere a “FISH! FISH!”
Without our fishin’s, our lives would be as shaky as, as a Chicken on the Roof!

  8. Hey look at the subject matter!!! Given it's seals and chickens what can we expect.

Mary Poppins warbling Feed the Seals Tuppence a smelt???

    Solid effort Melissa.

  9. Set me as a seal upon thy park, as a seal upon thy farm...

  10. Alonzo, does this mean that there are some roosters that you DO trust? 'Cause I don't trust any. I wonder how many sardines those seals got to eat on a busy day? Hundreds? And as many gold panning photos as I've seen, I never really get tired of them.

Chuck, cue the Twilight Zone theme!

Nancy, yes, I can think of worse things than to be at Knott's in the 1950's. Old MacDonald acquired seals when he discovered how delicious a seal burger was. They never caught on with the public though.

Chuck and Alonzo, if I wasn't in total agreement with you, I'd feel bad for taking advantage of Melissa's talents!

Melissa, first of all that video is hilarious. That one chicken stares down that bunny like a gangsta. And twins freak me out, I don't know why. Two people shouldn't look so much alike. And THANK you for the song!

    Nanook, ha ha.

Alonzo, this is probably one of the best "seals and chickens" songs I've ever heard! You won't hear any criticism from ME.

    Melissa - forsooth!

I shudder to think of the shady backroom deals between Foghorn Leghorn and the Hyperchicken.
