There can't be too many full-time gigs for old fashioned marching bands these days. I wonder if joining the Disneyland Band is the equivalent of being accepted to the Philadelphia Orchestra? Here they are, marching through Town Square in 1973.
Not only do you have to be able to play your instrument well, you have to do it while marching. Or at least standing. Any punk can do it sitting down!
All hats should have a bottle washer on top, because you just never know.
Do you think these photos were taken in the early evening? I notice the small light bulbs on the Main Street buildings and Town Square Lampposts are lit. Nice set today.
ReplyDeleteI remember May 1973 was the one and only time I went to Disneyland with my grandmother. It was a great memory.
Their plumes double as instrument swabs.
ReplyDeleteLove the old multi-color merchandise bag in the second pic. Would loved to have saved one in good condition. Could have framed it and put it wall with my Licorice Pizza bag.
ReplyDeleteMain street is surely in full plume.
K. Martinez, they must have been taken later in the day... I think that in May, it still gets dark relatively early. Of course a camera can make it appear lighter than it was to the eye.
ReplyDeleteMelissa, ewwwww. Spit.
Alonzo, I do love those bags... I have a few smaller ones that I saved from my childhood, but a large example like that one would be cool!
