Ice Cream at Disneyland, 1996

Today's photos all feature a Main Street storefront that, to be perfectly honest, I was not aware of before. I just don't spend enough time appreciating the finer details of Main Street the way I should. All of these photos are from 1996.

In the mood for some ice cream? Of course you are, why am I even asking. You can get ice cream all over the park, but this window is pretty cute. I don't even know where it is (was). Up near the hub? Over on Center Street?

Sorry, the window is closed on this December day. Maybe sales of cold snacks are down in the winter time. Notice the Dalmatians above the awning; above that, Carnation's name is subtly on display.

And finally, my favorite of the bunch, a lovely night shot. I like the glimpse inside the store and the signs that look so wonderful when lit. The scene reminds me of Edward Hopper (minus the melancholy).

  1. I like the second image. It's the Main Street Cone Shop and it's located at the end of East Center Street. I've had ice cream several times during the summers past.

  2. Always loved this place. Conveniently located next to the locker bay, it's the perfect place to stop and grab a cone on your way out before you grab all the stuff you stored for the past few hours.

  3. Some of Disneyland's best kept secrets are squirreled-away off the beaten path. This is merely one of the little gems.

    Thanks, Major.

  5. The live action version of 101 Dalmatians came out Thanksgiving weekend of that year, Major. And that holiday season, the park had 101 Dalmatian puppies placed all around Main St. They were on ledges, in the windows and in Town Square. I have some photos that I will post once I get back to posting! :-)

  6. WEIRD I was just remembering the live action version of 101 Dalmatians this morning! Didn't McDonald's put out 101 different puppy toys for happy meals or something? I had a teacher that had almost all of them in her classroom. Didn't know about the puppies in the park though, that's cute. :)

  7. K. Martinez, I suspected that it was on East Center Street, but I honestly don't remember ever seeing the place! Next time I'm going to have to make a special point to hunt it down.

Chuck, since I always keep stuff in a locker, I will do the same thing and get a cone to go!

Nanook, now I have spoiled the secret for everyone.

Nancy, even somebody from the east coast knows about this place?!

TokyoMagic!, I'm glad to hear that you are planning on posting someday… I just assumed that you were done for good.

PsySocDisney, I could see myself wanting ALL 101, it would drive me crazy to not have a complete set. The thing about happy meal toys is that sometimes you can buy whole sets for a surprisingly low price on ebay. But then again, I am unaware of any other set that has 101 pieces.

  8. My first words on seeing the first picture were "East Center Street".

I guess I look at too many pictures of Disneyland. I also remember when the lockers were in the Moving and Storage building behind the Emporium.

This is a better location for the lockers. I seem to remember getting ice cream for the kids here, which is why this looks familar.

Thank you for the great pictures, Major.
