Two From October 1967
Here are the final two images from a lot from October 1967...
This is an unusual view taken from the empty queue area for the Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland. The ride was a "people eater", but it still surprises me to see NO line for this legendary attraction. If I wasn't so lazy, I would want to go back through my images to see if I have ANY pictures of the Mine Train with a line out front.
The Skyway began (or ended, if you are a pessimist!) at this charming chalet in Fantasyland. It looks so great, perched up on that hill and surrounded by that forest of evergreens.

Major, that first photo is even cooler than that -- it's inside the Pack Mule queue! Coooool! From that hanging sign, I see that I wouldn't be allowed on now. :( Lazy mules.
Remember how there was never a long wait for Skyway on the Fantasyland side, even when the Tomorrowland station was mobbed?
You do indeed have photos of a line for Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland. As Rich T. points out, that's the Pack Mule queue. Obviously there were no fashion models at the park that day.
Little did the peeps working for Walt know that the charming chalet there would not satisfy Walt of his shine for all things old Swiss. No, they'd have to make a mountain before he was done...
The park looks nearly deserted in both shots. Quite peaceful in fact.
Did you hear we're losing most of Rainbow Ridge and getting a BTM ABC TV show? Not a fair trade off if you ask me :(
@RichT. Now that you mention it, most of my memories of the Skyway are traveling from Tomorrowland to the Fantasyland Chalet, but I preferred the chalet station, waiting there was fun, looking at the details on the walls.

Wow, what a great shot! My favorite attraction viewed from an unusual angle, taken in the queue for its neighbor! Someone was really being artsy to get that shot. Thanks for this one!
I heard about the Rainbow Ridge rumor. It wouldn’t bother me personally if they changed it. Big Thunder Mountain is the only classic “E” ticket attraction that hasn’t had a major update during its 30+ years. Frontierland is so stagnate. I’m ready for change in this area. I do still miss the Skyway though.
Taking out most of Rainbow Ridge?! Good grief. I get that the Park isn't a museum, but still...
What justification is the rumor mill offering for this land grab? Not more pirates, I hope...
Oh, and I love the pictures today!
Sorry my emotions got the better of me. Long, hard day, I'm afraid, and my normal, daily "ahhhh, yes...Disneyland" moment of relaxation was disrupted by those nasty rumors.
Bad rumors, BAD!
Rich T., if I had half a brain I would have noticed that you can see the line area for the Mine Train right in front of us! Not to mention the sign. Thanks for pointing that out! That's what I get for writing 10 posts at a time late at night.
Chiana… fashion models?
Snow White Archive, this was back when the park had an "off season"!
Hannahx2, I did hear that. Unless the buildings are termite-ridden, I don't get why they need to be torn down. I wonder if they will build something more elaborate and spectacular… it's the only thing that makes sense.
JG, I'm just the opposite, I vividly recall the Tomorrowland Skyway station, and barely remember waiting in line at the Fantasyland location.
Tom, the guy who took these photos was a talented amateur… you could tell from the rest of the images in the box that he practiced photography a lot.
K. Martinez, I only worry because, sometimes, things are removed and nothing better replaces them. (Think "Peoplemover"). But with so much competition from Universal Studios, maybe Disney will up their game and make Big Thunder's queue area really amazing.
Chuck, we can only wait and see. I try to stay positive… look what they did with DCA!
Yeah, I read that rumor too. I'm picturing a tunnel with an audio-animatronic Johnny Depp dressed as Tonto from the upcoming Lone Ranger film....OR a scene with Woody, Jessie and Bullseye. Of course, they could be sticking Pooh and Tinkerbell over there. Oh, the possibilities! :-(
You're right, of course - thinking positive is the way to go. And maybe we really will get something amazing out of it all.
"Crazy! I mean, like so many positive waves...maybe we can't lose! You're on!" - Donald Sutherland, "Kelly's Heroes," MGM, 1970
I really do hope that something really awesome ends up in Rainbow Ridge's place. It's just such a familiar icon of the ride I can't picture it without it. Oh well, fingers are crossed. As always.
Love the pictures today....Rainbow Ridge was so cool in its heyday
