Four From 1995
It's time for more photos from not-so-long-ago... the summer of 1995. A mere 17 years ago! For some reason the color on these (scanned from vintage negatives) is just a little bit funky, but I'm sure we can all deal with it.
Let's start with this terrific picture of the C.K. Holliday. I love the little locomotives of the Disneyland Railroad, look how this one gleams. Are there any fanatics who might know the names of the two fellows inside the cab? A long shot, I realize...
Notice the sign heralding "40 Years of Adventure"; 1995 was Disneyland's 40th anniversary, and at first I thought that the use of the Indiana Jones font was a tacky choice - but then realized that the "Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye" had debuted in March of that year. Obviously it was a big deal!
Good old Town Square still looks pretty nice. It's always great to see the Chemical Wagon on display outside the Firehouse. And who doesn't love the Omnibus?
Looking down Main Street U.S.A, we can see a typical summer crowd. Hey, I've seen worse! I'll bet a lot of those folks were heading right over to Adventureland for their very first "Indy" experience.
Did I just say that it was a busy day? Because it sure doesn't appear so in this picture, taken at the hub. There's a cheerful yellow Horseless Carriage. I'm so used to much more vintage shots of Disneyland that it is downright odd to see Space Mountain looming in the distance!

What a great, cheerful dose of Main Street! Love the bright reds in that shot of the C.K. Holliday!
Second Rich. Cheerful pics. :)
Don't remember what the New Century shop sold.
Chiana, the New Century shop sold clocks and watches.
It's hard to believe that this was 17 years ago. Where does the time go?
Thanks TM! To your question I've no idea...
Wow, Main Street vehicles still making their way without being shut down by foot traffic. So this is proof it's within the last 17 years that a million+ AP's have ruined the park.
I remember my 1995 trip to Disneyland well. While walking through the park, I discovered the Skyway was missing. Aaargh!
Nic pics! I love the yellow horseless carriage with Space Mountain in the background.
Rich T., I'm glad you liked these not-so-old pix!
Chiana, thank goodness TokyoMagic! answered your question, because I wouldn't have been able to.
TokyoMagic!, I have to admit that it is surprising how much has changed in that relatively short timeframe.
Alonzo, a friend of mine keeps telling me that WDW no longer runs their Main Street vehicles, so I am always grateful to see Disneyland's fleet out and about.
K. Martinez, I had forgotten that the Skyway was already closed by 1995. ARG!
I remember I was on my way to work one morning in October of '94, and I heard someone on the radio say that it was the last day of operation for a Disneyland "classic"....the Skyway. I almost couldn't believe that I heard them correctly. I just couldn't comprehend why they would want to close it. Remember, this is before they got rid of the Main St. Electrical Parade, ruined Tomorrowland, closed the Subs, or removed Country Bear Jamboree. Now 17 years later, almost nothing they do surprises me.
I kinda like the funky colors.
How people dress hasn't changed since 1995. The pictures could have been taken last week although it was 17 years ago. Seems just like yesterday even though it wasn't.
One of the big draws of the New Century Timepieces shop was the fact that you could commission a personalized Disney work of art (from a list of drawings available) that would then be shrunk down and put on a watch face. In the end, you got both the originl artwork in full size along with the watch for something like $300 or so. I had one made for my wife for our 5th anniversary.
