Plantation House & Indian Village, 1957
Here's a neat photo of the Plantation House, where you could eat delicious animatronic chicken dinners (among other things). It's too bad this structure couldn't have survived the addition of New Orleans Square, since it actually seems to fit the theme pretty well. Guess there just wasn't enough room, same old story. Imagine watching Fantasmic! from the upper veranda. Now imagine Mothra is attacking Fantasmic!, making that weird Mothra noise, and shooting silk stuff at Malificent, who happens to be wearing a cowboy hat. Imagination!
The old Indian Village was quite a spectacle, even when seen from the deck of the Mark Twain. Look at all those people! Each one of them with hopes and dreams, and all of them afraid of Mothra.

Never saw The Cheekin Plantation from this view! Never noticed those multi-colored bricks (or paint in brick pattern?). Never saw this end of the building. Never noticed how inviting that path looks for a stroll along the river side. Never thought I'd be hit with multiple references to Mothra in the same vintage Disneyland post. New experiences every day! Interesting assortment of humanoids in the pic too - many looking back at us. I'm getting self conscious. Or maybe just conscious. Where am I...?
Oh pic #2. Folks dressing in old leather and feathers and living in an animal hide tepee have the right to be wary of moths. Mothra would see the animal skulls on poles however and be deterred. How did we get to Mothra anyway? There's a hide-shaded frame structure foreground right; wonder what it was.
I see part of a giant cocoon on the far left of that second pic.....
Great pics today. Thanks!
There are very few pictures around of the Plantation House and this is a great one! This was my Mom's favorite place to have a great chicken dinner. My Dad loved the Indian dancers so this is a double good post for me today.
In the first image I can see the Jungle Cruise foliage and the wind-breaking eucalyptus trees behind City Hall. I like the path along the river. The Plantation House is owned and operated by Batman’s nemesis Two-Face.
In the Indian Village, they are listening to the twin Mothra fairies sing the Mothra Song “Mosura No Uta”.
Honestly, Mothra has a theme song? Now I *am* jealous.
Chiana, don't be cheekin! Like you, I had never noticed the bricks in various shades of white and gray. The part of the building that looks like an addition (to the right) must be bathrooms? The hu-mans who are looking at us can't be blamed, all they see is a neat sternwheeler. And if Mothra will attack Godzilla (and win!), then a few skulls won't be a problem. As for the hide covered structure, I don't know what it is.
TokyoMagic!, you're right! Mothra will do anything to protect the cocoon. She is fearsome, but generally honorable.
Pegleg Pete, you're welcome!
Irene, I have lots of pictures of the Plantation House, but admittedly they are mostly from far away. A nice photo like this is kind of unusual.
K. Martinez, ha ha, wind-breaking. I have the mind of an 8 year-old! I think that little path was basically a way to get to and from one of the raft docks. I think I remember Mothra's song, kind of. The two fairies were played by a girl group called "The Peanuts"!
Katella, don't you think a gigantic moth deserves a theme song? I think she actually had several different songs in different movies, but it's been a while.
I love Mothra.
That is a great picture of the Plantation House. Such detail. And the water stirred up by the Mark Twain almost makes it looks like the Rivers of America are actually flowing like a real river.
a beautiful sunny, view of the Plantation House! I was also noting the path near the water's edge is very close to that water. Never got the chance to eat here, either. :(
Loving the train going by the Circle. I would ride all day long!!
Whoa!! Fab photo of the Plantation House! I've never seen it at that angle before. So cool.
