More Wardrobe Department!

Here is the second post in a series of wonderful vintage photos from Disneyland's wardrobe department (courtesy of GDB reader "Huck")!

We're still hanging with the parking lot crew. They're good people. "Duty Now For the Future" is this fellow's motto (circa 1966). He's standing in that slightly awkward way that I like to do, staring at an imaginary airplane in the distance. Cinch up that belt a little more!

Another one from 1966... isn't she the cutest? When she's done with her shift, I'm taking her to Denny's for waffles.

By 1973, things had changed! "Jan" looks groovy in her orange, yellow, and blue. Comfortable sneakers help keep her cheerful during the hours on her feet. And her hat is awesome too.

Once again, many thanks to Huck for these wonderful photos. You'll be seeing some more real soon!

I think that last costume was used for the parking attendants for many, many years....maybe into the eighties. Does anyone know for sure when they stopped using that one?

Oh come now! This guy even has the Devo stare down. Head right slightly tilted up, looking toward the new frontier. You are right we are all Devo.

Also a + for our Devo-esque man of action, is the cinched-up, high-waisted position of his trousers. Not to mention the "perfect" billowing of his shirt. He's clearly ready for whatever the throngs of Disney faithful are sure to dish out.

The 1973 Parking Lot costume was desih=gned by Tom Pierce. He was brought on in early 1968 to strat developing costumes for WDW. The first to be revised or created was the HAUNTED MANSION and the Gondiler Small World costume. The Monorail was the third for Disneyland. When the Wardrobe staff returned in late 1972 from living in Florida, they began revising most of the Disneyland costumes. The parking lot one was one of the firts. And the basic design was used thru about 1986/87. Each Disneyland costume is revised (back then) about every seven years, so a costume may retain it's basic look or style, but the material thickness or cut lines might change. very few "modern" American's could wear the costumes made for Disneyland cast members in the late 60's or early 70's.

The first attendant is bout to burst into The Pants Up Song.

As some have mentioned, the Devo looking attendant, it also reminds me how times have changed. Only old men wear their pants up to their nipples these days.

TokyoMagic!, do you really think they would stick with that color scheme (yellow and orange!) all the way into the 80's?

Alanzo, he is definitely a spud boy.

Nanook, I think it is time for the pants-pulled-up-to-the-chest, tight cinched look to come back! And I'm just the guy to start.

Nancy, why would your tag say "Marcia"?!?!

Mike, thank you for the great costume info! In looking at Huck's photos, it is amazing to see the sheer number of costumes that were available.

Melissa, I love MST3K!

David, why DO old men wear their pants so high?

That hat rings a bell. Or looks like it could anyway.

I love the whole set of these costumes! I actually prefer some of these to what currently exists. I love their pure "Disney" look, too. We don't see that as much anymore. Great postings! :)
