A Streetcar Named Ralph, June 1969

Somebody was really really fond of the Horse-drawn Streetcars. Or the horses, anyway; streetcars be damned! Here's a magnificent fellow, proud of his flowing blonde mane. I call him "Fabio".

Could that be the same horse? I've been told that the streetcars are rather easy to pull - though maybe the weight of a driver and passengers makes it a bit more difficult. Fabio wears blinders because otherwise he's always trying to go into the China Closet.

And finally, one more (blurry) photo; Town Square looks fine, as does that lady's groovy yellow outfit. Far out!

  1. Fabio - LOL

What a beauty. People only say it is easy to haul because they do not have to. :)

Love the front of the China Shop. What a great, charming storefront.

(It's zero fault of the Major's or any blogger but I must whine that the recent doubling of the CAPTCHA has really cut into my willingness to post)

  3. The porch door to the China Closet is open! What year did they seal that up?

I agree with Chiana (and Connie)....the "difficult to read double code word thing" is super annoying. I wonder if Blogger received many complaints about it when they switched over to it?

The trolley has a yellow sign that says 10 cents fare. Did they collect dimes from everyone? Hope the horse had a profit-sharing option.

Now to try and decipher the two code words...

As an owner (perhaps the word "servant" would be more appropriate) of a Belgian, I can say they are truly "gentle giants" and can pull many times their weight without difficulty or protest when properly treated and cared for.

  6. Those horses are one of my favorite things at Disneyland. Their clop-clop *is* the sound of Main Street. And I'd rather see that horse sell hair products than Fabio.

Major, I'm still kinda reeling from your disclosure that you've never ridden the streetcars! They're such a vital part of Disneyland's personality; they're the yin to Space Mountain's yang. Or something...

  7. Chiana, those horses mostly move trolleys with their mind power. It only appears that they are pulling them. And for what it's worth, I freakin' hate the new captcha thing too! It's more of a pain to leave comments on blogs that I like, and I'm sure it is cutting down on the comments that i receive.

VDT, it reminds me of something Diana Ross would wear with the Jackson 5.

TM!, how else were people supposed to get into the China Closet? Was there another door? I should know this, but I don't....

Bill, I think that they only accepted "A" tickets, and not dimes! And I tried to complain to Blogger about the new captcha verification system, but I doubt it will do any good. The old way seemed to eliminate 95% of the spam comments, and the rest were easily dealt with.

Anon, they sure are neat horses! I can only imagine how much they eat.

Rich T., I am ashamed of having never experienced the trolleys; I go to the park maybe once a year, and it seems that we're always in such a hurry to do other things. Maybe next time...

  8. Major, today the entrance is just to the left of that porch even though the shop extends over and behind the porch area.

Major, not that much more...though I'm adding alfalfa which has got more calories than good quality hay. And drafts require a supplement of high-fat oil to their diets for their well being. Keep up the good work.
