Try to pretend that you haven't seen pictures like these a zillion times! If you can view this scene with fresh eyes, you'll find that it is still pretty fantastic. You've got your big river, Cascade Peak, Tom Sawyer Island, and even a bit of Rainbow Ridge (not to mention the buildings of Frontierland itself).
Similar scene, zoomified! The steamboat is loading (or unloading?) a batch of passengers while a plucky little Keel Boat follows an Indian War Canoe. I regret never experiencing the Keel Boats!
Is that Keel Boat the Bertha Mae, the Gully Whumper, the Gully Pitts, or the Jolie-Pitts?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely the best headline of any of your posts!!! Laughed out loud!!!

Row! Row! Row!
ReplyDeleteYeah the Mark Twain!
ReplyDeleteMay 1964. And to think that Walt Disney was still around and he was making big plans for a new land, a new pirate attraction and people at that time were listening to baseball games and 4 lads from Liverpool that just came over 3 months earlier on their transistor radios.
ReplyDeleteTM!, It's the Zazu Pitts. (1930's humor, YEAH!)
ReplyDeleteBill, glad you liked it! I always think "Oh that's awful - but I'll post it anyway!"
Nancy, I'm rowing as fast as I can!
Matterhorn1959, ha ha!
OC Native, it is a fun exercise to put events into historical (or cultural) context; The Rolling Stones first album had just come out, the World's Fair had just opened, the Ford Mustang was introduced, and "From Russia With Love" was a hit at the box office!
Ha! Why didn't I think of her!
ReplyDeleteHehehe! I just watched Murder By Death again yesterday.....
ReplyDeleteTM!, probably because she hasn't been relevant for 50 years!
ReplyDeleteBearride - I saw Murder By Death when I was a kid, but I wasn't thinking of it when I titled this post. Maybe that line (which I just read about on Wikipedia) was stuck in my brain somewhere and I didn't even know it!
Aw, depending on what day in May that first photo was taken, I was either 8 or 9. Judging by the crowds, it may have been Memorial Weekend!
ReplyDeleteI thought the Zazu Pitts was where Frodo threw the ring...
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures, great headlines.
