This blog has nothing to do with gorillas (though I love 'em)...fellow bloggers have inspired me to share vintage images of Disneyland from my personal collection. But don't be surprised if you see something from a World's Fair, Knott's Berry Farm, or someplace else that is cool!

Rocket to the Moon, 1958
You know what? I am just feeling lazy today. Much too lazy to post more than a single picture. Call me "Mr. Lazypants". No don't, I changed my mind, that's a stupid name. What were we talking about again?
I'm going to go back to bed, but please enjoy this nice photo of the entrance to the old Rocket to the Moon attraction. I think we can all agree that it is one of the most diatomaceous photos ever.
I see a woman wearing a woven hat that was probably purchased in Adventureland. And is that kid on the far right wearing a bowler hat? Then there's a little boy on the far left dressed in a red vest (and an untied bow tie?)....he looks like he should be playing the piano at Coke Corner.
Won't call you Mr Lazypants since Gorillas Don't Wear Pants, and it's not true anyway. Nice painter pants on the foreground lad though. Not a diatom in sight on this slide, just a rocket ready for launch and folks in their Sunday best queueing for a trip to the Moon and back.
since Tomorrowland is my favorite land and sci-fi is my favorite kind of movie, and you posted only one photo today, it was written somewhere that it would be a trip to the moon, the ultimate sci-fi adventure, i just know it!
Ladies and gentlemen; boys and girls! Disneyland is proud to present....Algae Boy and his exploits on the 'Rocket to the Moon!' Please stay seated at all times and no flash photography. Enjoy everyone.
Stay in bed Mr. Lazypants err Major, sleep is our friend.
Nanook, I am going to make the word "diatomaceous" part of my every-day vocabulary. Let's just pretend it means "awesome"!
TM!, I think the boy to the right is wearing a fedora or a porkpie! And the kid with the red vest might be wearing an old-fashioned string tie like Colonel Sanders used to wear.
D ticket, there might be a diatom. They are tiny, after all, and it is known that they enjoy amusement parks.
Nancy, happy birthday! I hope it is sunnier and warmer where you are (it is a rainy day here in SoCal - not that I'm complaining).
Chiana, I am already dreaming of "The Many Adventures of Algae Boy". Episode One: THE RED TIDE!
Thufer, would Algae Boy actually BE algae, or would he be a human boy raised by algae, thereby acquiring amazing algae fighting skills?
Well, I'm not certain about the 'diatomaceous' part, but it was one swell attraction.

ReplyDeleteWhen the Major emerges from lethargy, we'll have to ask him how he knew just what to post.
And we can't agree; I see not shelled algae, algae boy. :p
Happy Birthday Nancy.

Hope you feel better after a nap Major.
ReplyDeleteDiatomaceous is a perfectly cromulent word, deserving everyday use.
