Nothin' too exciting today; I guess I could say that most days, couldn't I? Just a few snaps from 1958.
A raft from the "mainland" has just arrived, and a group of curious guests begin their explorations of Frontierland's wonderful Tom Sawyer Island. I still think it's amazing that the mill looks so convincingly old; my grandparents had a little one-horse stable on their property, and it looked kind of like this - after 50 years. The tree house in the upper left was where guests could get their highest vantage point in Disneyland - until the Matterhorn was built the following year.
Anahiem's castle may not be gigantic, like the one in Florida, but it is just right for Disneyland.
Beautiful Pair, boy do I miss that mill, its actually looks real!
ReplyDeleteI did a 1958 Disneyland post today too - great minds....
You know I was willing to believe that was a full-sized mill until I noticed that woman standing on the porch.
ReplyDeleteMajor, these both are beauties! How dumb is this...I thought the Mill we have today was the original.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that mill that is there now suffers from the Fantasmic stage, which looks like hell in the bright daylight. I guess it must be 5/8 scale like so much other stuff at the park?
ReplyDeleteConnie, I think that I am generally the person who knows the least about Disneyland!
I agree. The castle is the right size for Disneyland. Anything large like the one at DW and it would be out of proportion with the rest of the DL park.
ReplyDeleteBoth are great pictures. Whoever took the second photo knows some things about photography or they just lucked out. The person framed the castle by using the overhanging tree branches.
no, i am the one who really knows almost nothing about Disneyland from the good ole' days :( ...
ReplyDeletei never even got to go there until 2001, LOOONG after lots of the good stuff was gone
i love that picture of the castle b/c of the tree branches you can see in at the top and side, just beautiful
the Mill is so pretty, too
Nice shots, Major. I loved that old mill. The original TSI bldgs were great works of theming.
