A Pair From July 1962

I had to lighten today's photos up considerably in Photoshop, and they are still too dark. Some poor photographer had his camera settings messed up, and his slide shows were the laughingstock of the town.

I sure wish I could experience the brief thrill of passing through the Matterhorn while aboard the Skyway. It was so cool to be able to look down and see the large open space (pre-abominable snowman) and hear the shrieks of the 'coaster riders, or even the occasional passing bobsled.

Looks like the Mine Train has just started its journey... one of the first things you did after leaving Rainbow Ridge was go around Cascade Peak, past (and even beneath) Big Thunder Falls, before you entered Bear Country.

  1. Oh high "you are there" quotient easily overcomes any black level probs. They look good actually.

In the bucket is another guy taking 8mm footage. Yet this still pic is probably what survived instead (and might well be superior anyway!).

What beautiful scenics on that Mine Train here. Darn good rockwork and landscaping. The train is so cute! Nice scene, I'd love to ride that. =splunk= To the desktop! :)

  2. Awesome you-are-there pix!

Skywaying (yes it is a word, Blogger Spellcheck!) through the Matterhorn pre-makeover was awesome. The interior was wonderfully noisy and full of crazy motion! You were in the bowels of this insane spaghetti bowl of coaster track, and really got a feeling for how pure GENIUS the ride's layout was/is.

  3. Oh, to be able to experience those attractions again!
At least we can just a little bit through your pictures!
    Thank you for that.

  4. What Rich said!!! I soooo loved going on the Skyway for that reason! Oh and in later years, I loved getting a brief view of the Main Street Electrical Parade from the Skybuckets.

I love all of your old photos. They bring back so many memories. I know, everyone says that, but it's true. During the sixties/seventies, my parents would take us to DL once per year, for one day...no multi-day visits back then. Anyway, I only wish I had the many pictures that were taken. Sadly, they're long gone.
Great job. I love this blog.

  6. Thanks guys and gals! These photos got a better reception than I expected, which is always nice. I am waiting for the day when these rides can be recreated in 3D computer generated versions!

  8. Major, it is getting to the point where I enjoy the comments almost as much as the pictures.

I like it when I read so many comments that sum up just how I feel about a given picture.

Thanks Major, and all the commenters (commentators?).

  9. Welcome, less Anonymous Orange Co Native!

Yup JG, it's not only Disneyland and the pics - which I love geeking on, don't get me wrong - but the people, humor, memories and thoughts that accompany them make it a habit.
