Today my imaginary friends and I will pay tribute to the Disneyland Band! When the come marching by, things just get better.
Here they are, passing East Center Street where the "Art Festival" is not exactly "wowing" the guests. In fact, where is all the art? I've seen other photos with paintings and drawings in abundance. Anyway, the band doesn't care about any of it; just play that sweet, sweet music! Look at the showoff playing his trombone with one hand.
Another shot, revealing that the band leader is none other that Mickey Mouse. "Miggy! Over here Miggy!" (that's how I talk). Crowds are light, huh?
And, having rounded the hub, Miggy and friends head back down Main Street. What was that, about 8 minutes of work?
Well the band didn't draw much there because it wasn't Vesey style - it was a Mickey Mouse job.
ReplyDeleteYes, not much art on sale at the Art Festival. I would love to own that banner as it has fantastic typography.
ReplyDeletePut that Trombone Guy down as a slacker, 60's style. (In fairness, you can probably play the base lines to most of this stuff without all the slide theatrics. Those Sousa base lines practically play themselves... One-Five, One-Five, One-Five-Four-Five ...repeat)
ReplyDeleteAs for "Miggy Mouse"... you're in trouble with Nara DreamLand for infringing on their copyright infringement, cause Miggy was the mascot they stole while they were stealing Disneyland.
For those of you who don't know Dreamland, follow the rabbit down the hole and click the Link into a strange, parallel universe where people drive on the wrong side of the road, and Mr. Spock has a goatee...

WOW that alternate disneyland is so creepy!
ReplyDeleteI always wanted to go to Nara Dreamland, but it closed before I ever got the chance.
ReplyDeleteLove these three pics today, Major!
The "Art Festival" banner was only there to advertise the chalk portrait concession. There was a lady named Betty Bell who worked there for years and years until D-land decided that the concession didn't make enough profit, so they laid off all the "artists". Betty went on to work at Knotts, Magic Mountain, and a few other places and teaching many others - including myself - the craft of drawing profile portraits in chalk.
ReplyDeleteHi Zoid...You were at the Art Center there? Did you happen to meet a friend of mine wo toiled there in the very late 60's early 70s....Julie Ann Inman. She was then and still is a very talented artist.
ReplyDeletefunny to see shops like Hallmark and Timex, and know that there were no stuffed Mickey Mouses or hoodies or pins or the dozens of other things we buy nowadays at the Park...
ReplyDeleteand some rare pictures of Mickey; we dont see all that many of them
love the marching band ;)
