Pack Mules & Conestoga Wagon, 1957

I have decided to ditch by environmentally unfriendly gas-burning automobile and switch to a more "green" alternative. Yes, you'll see me on the 405 freeway driving my conestoga wagon! The 405 never goes more than about 5 miles an hour anyway, so it will work just fine. This swell photo is what inspired me. Behind the wagon is the load area for the Pack Mules... you can see three little girls in identical white tops and red pants.

Now that pesky wagon has moved out of the way, affording us a better look at those groovy mules. The third kid back is stylin' in his cowboy hat! I could easily see myself taking consecutive rides on the Mine Train, Pack Mules, Conestoga Wagon, and Stagecoach; each one with their slightly different perspective of the Rainbow Desert.

  1. Gosh it looks so warm, cheerful in these somehow, know what I mean? You can kind of see the layout vision too, not bad pics of this scene. :)

  2. By the way, good choice switching to Conestoga Wagon Maj. You'll be the envy of the soccer moms, you can tote the whole team in that mother.

  3. Excellent pics as always Major.

OK now this is THE TRUTH! When I went to high school, there was a girl who was born somewhere in Europe, I can't remember where.

She was beautiful, Oh my God she was beautiful!

GET READY! - Her name was Constance Stoga - And we called her Connie.

    GET IT... CONNIE STOGA !!!

Believe me, I swear it is the truth. This is not a Friday morning-old-guy-meltdown :-)

  6. I believe you Viewliner... I worked with an art restorer whose legal name was Turkey Stremmel (Google it if you like...). That was not an adopted name, that's the name she got from her parents for reasons she would not disclose :)

She did tell me, though, that she was delighted when a young man named Peter Stremmel asked her to marry him, because the runner up in the matrimony game was a dentist named Dr. Dinner.

    Hello Major,

Are those large rock formations just under the train tracks in the pictures the rock formations that exist today near the entrance to the BBQ area behind Big Thunder Mountain. If not....do they still exist, but are part of Thunder Mountain ride.

    Thanks

  10. Hi Anonymous, fwiw I think those rock formations are gone, they were much nearer the river; some of the formations now in the BBQ area are the remnants of The Living Desert area of the Mine Train / Nature's Wonderland attraction.

  11. Chiana, thank you for your answer to Anonymous' question! My guess would have been that these particular rock formations were removed/redone for Nature's Wonderland in 1960, but beyond that, I had no idea.
