This blog has nothing to do with gorillas (though I love 'em)...fellow bloggers have inspired me to share vintage images of Disneyland from my personal collection. But don't be surprised if you see something from a World's Fair, Knott's Berry Farm, or someplace else that is cool!

Skyway & Spacebar
It seems like I've been spending a lot of time in Tomorrowland this week. But I don't hear any complaints! Here's a nice view taken from the Skyway (again) on a hazy day, looking back towards the loading area for the Skyway and the Autopia. We get a nice look at the Space Bar as well. Look at the queue for the Skyway, the railings are lined with attraction posters on both sides. I wish this slide had a date, but no such luck. It must be pretty early though, check out the undeveloped land in the distance...lots of trees and fields.
Wow it looks like the Space Bar was changed around a bit. The images I showed of the bar were from 1966, maybe they revamped it when the Flying Saucers were put in?
ReplyDeleteNeat shot! None of the riff raff had moved in across Harbor Blvd yet.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know the date when the round Skyway vehicles were replaced by the more rectangular ones?
And there's no monorail yet - so that narrows the date . . .
ReplyDeleteYes - No Monorail or signs of construction so must be between 1956 (Skyway installed) and 1958.
ReplyDeleteWith the lack of anything (is that an old farmhouse to the left?), I'd say this was 1957. The area where the farmhouse stands is now the Carousel Inn/Tropicana Inn location...
Ooops, I meant to say the farmhouse is to the right...
ReplyDeletehrundi v. bakshi, I have slides from 1965 with the rectangular Skyway vehicles, I'm guessing that was the year they were introduced.
ReplyDeleteAnd matterhorn, you are right, the changes were considerable between this photo and yours. They both look great though!
