I thought I'd offer a closer look at the mountain, with two daring climbers making their way towards the top! One's almost there....
This blog has nothing to do with gorillas (though I love 'em)...fellow bloggers have inspired me to share vintage images of Disneyland from my personal collection. But don't be surprised if you see something from a World's Fair, Knott's Berry Farm, or someplace else that is cool!

Matterhorn and Fantasyland Construction
It's April 1962, and there is a lot of construction going on in Fantasyland. I sure wish I knew what it was for...we seem to be back behind Storybookland. For some reason there is a lone Matterhorn bobsled next to the fence in the lower right. Maybe the Fantasyland Autopia was being worked on? That doesn't make much sense, since the Fantasyland Autopia opened in 1959. Please let me know if you have any ideas!
I miss the climbers as well as the mermaids in the Submarine Lagoon. Just another example of the acoutaneers setting the "background ambiance" to zero to save money?
ReplyDeleteWith the popularity of rock climbing lately, I am surprized Disney hasn't figured out a way to let guests climb to the top of the Matterhorn... for a fee of course.
I think that the Construction walls are to cover up the backstage area of Storybookland. If you look at some of the Fantasyland arials from that time you'll see it there.
ReplyDelete"Boatopia"????
ReplyDeleteC'mon Tangaroa, don't you remember "Boatopia"?? It was right next to "Malificent's Corn Dog Hut".
ReplyDeleteGee thanks...now I got iced tea all over my monitor...
ReplyDeleteMalificent's Corn Dog Hut. You NUT!
