Snoozles™

Before we get to today's Snoozles™, I'd like to wish GDB friend Ken Martinez a very Happy Birthday! I only just learned that February 22nd is his "big day", so I had to scramble to put something appropriate in today's post. Luckily I had this cute scan of a little boy on his fourth birthday (if I believe the number of candles on his cake), with his adoring mother looking on. The two of them have dishes of vanilla ice cream, I don't know why they aren't enjoying the ice cream with the cake. They're missing out! Notice that the icing on the cake says "Happy Birthday Kenny". A total coincidence, but kind of amazing! Kenny has a very nice toy train and a toy airplane on the table, pretty sweet.

I hope you have a great day, Ken!

*******************************

It's Snoozle Time. Not as much fun as Howdy Doody Time, but then again, what is?? In July of 1972, a photographer attempted to capture an image of dancing headhunters from the Jungle Cruise, but they were a little too slow on the draw; you can barely see the costumed dancers through the lush vegetation. Of course you can't see them at all, nowadays. It's OK, I understand.

This next one is from a batch of faded slides; and even though it isn't faded anymore, it has other issues. That being said, it's sort of a pretty view, one that can't be replicated today.

  1. Happy Birthday, Ken-! Cake and ice cream... no more need be said.

    Major-
I like the dancing headhunters image - it's sorta the Jungle Cruise equivalent of Where's Waldo-?

    Thanks, Major.

  2. Happy Birthday, Kenny Nartubez -- one of our favorite Jr. Gorillas! I wish you a wonderful day filled with lots of cake and ice cream [and I do hope you're feeling better and can enjoy your special day]! Thank you for the trip to Hawaii, yesterday. I've only been to Hawaii once, and loved it. While there I kept thinking that it reminded me of the Tahitian Terrace, vintage Disneyland Hotel, and Polynesian Resort [in WDW] -- all rolled into one.

I'll stop back later for some cake and ice cream. Please save me some!

    Thanks, Major.

  3. Happy Birthday to J. Nartu... No.... I just can't do it.... again. Happy Birthday to Ken Martinez! I know you're not feeling too great right now. Hey! Make yerself a chicken noodle soup birthday cake! (I'm sure it would taste yummy.)

Little Kenny's cake looks to be home made(?). But Mom did a very good job decorating it. On second thought, maybe it was made in a bakery. It looks like there's a cardboard disk under the cake.
We used to have a train very much like Kenny's. It was battery powered, and when switched on, it would chug along the floor making choo-choo sounds and occasionally toot a whistle. When it bumped into something, it would stop, back-up a bit, change direction, and go merrily in its way.

By golly, there ARE headhunters in this photo! Took me a while to spot them. They're in the shadows, blending in with the trees and foliage. Headhunters aside, it's a nice pic of the Jungle Cruise jungle.

Oooh! I like the Castle picture! It's like a painting depicting a scene from the Lord Of The Rings books; Minas Tirith, maybe. The Castle is perfectly framed amongst the foliage.

Sue, I hope you like chicken noodle cake!

First pic, nice jungle. Second pic, nice castle. Thanks, Major.

  4. I agree with Sue about Hawaii. We ate in our hotel's restaurant every night, and the decor was a cross between the Enchanted Tiki Room and the Tahitian Terrace. And they had shows with Hawaiian music and dancing every night. It was wonderful and very Adventureland-esque.

Maybe little Kenny's mom was going to cut the cake and put slices of it on top of the ice cream, but was first waiting to get a good photo while the candles were still lit? Or maybe the kid had a sensitivity to gluten, so Mom and Dad were going to wait until he went to bed, and then eat the whole cake themselves.....in one sitting. And without any utensils.

Happy Birthday, Ken! And thank you, Major, for the Sunday Snoozles!

Thanks for the pictures,Major. The first is kinda meh, but there is something I really like about the second.

  7. Happy Birthday Ken! Many happy returns of the day! And what a great picture commemorating your day! Will Steve DG explain the parts of the little train? I love this photo, Major!

The cannibals all left the JC and took jobs in the cafeteria. Too bad this view of a lost feature isn’t clearer.

The last photo makes up for the former. Just splendid. The Castle looks like our destination in a dream, beckoning us on Beyond the Fields We Know into a land of golden light. Beautiful.

    Thanks Major.

Nanook, I can’t remember the last time I had cake AND ice cream, but I miss it! And it’s true, those natives are hard to see.

Lou and Sue, if Hawaii was still like the Tahitian Terrace, Disneyland Hotel, and Polynesian Resort (with a little Tiki Room thrown in), I’d want to go!

JB, I had no idea that people would remember J, Nartubez! A happy accident caused by misplaced hands on the keyboard. It seems hard to believe that a regular mom would buy a cake for little Kenny; but I guess it could happen. My mom bought a Baskin Robbins ice cream cake for me one year because it had these sugar-icing versions of Charlie Brown and Snoopy on it, I loved the “Peanuts” comic strip at that time. I think that’s the only time she didn’t make a cake herself! That Castle photo is sort of oddly dreamlike, and I like that it is framed by trees.

TokyoMagic!, when I was really little, my mom and dad both played the ukulele, and after the kids were all sent to bed, they’d play records and strum along with their ukes. It was fun! They did sing some Hawaiian songs, but later on also played along to “Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown”, and “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head”. A fond memory. Cake on top of the ice cream? What is this, Russia?? There’s a right way and a wrong way to do things.

Budblade, at four years old, that kid isn’t going to school yet (probably), and he’s only been going to the local bar for a year. Give him time to make more friends!

    Mike Cozart, I GET IT!!

JG, your comment about the natives makes me wonder what Disney did with all of those old figures. Did they just cut them up and put them in the dumpster? That would have made for an interesting trash pickup. I feel guilty putting that Castle pic in the “Snoozles” category now!

  9. Happy birthday, Ken! Hope you are on the mend today.

The second photo kind of reminds me of a Thomas Cole painting; specifically, it has me thinking of ”The Architect’s Dream,” with its dark foreground framing and bright, dreamlike architecture in the background. The fact that that is my favorite painting is completely irrelevant. I swear!

Chuck, are you seriously telling me that Thomas Kinkade's "Cobblestone Bridge" is not your favorite painting??

    Dean Finder, nice!
