Santa's Village, Lake Arrowhead

It's always a good time to go to Santa's Village near beautiful Lake Arrowhead! Especially in the waning days of August.

By golly, I DO feel welcome. Mrs. Claus has put out the good giant mushrooms, and if that isn't hospitality, then I don't know what is. As you can see, this was one of the days that the Hell's Angels showed up. Even scary bikers love Christmas. "Santa, I want some brass knuckles, and a 'Big Loo' robot".

I love the giant candy cane with fanciful signs pointing to many wondrous features. "Wee Puppet Theatre"! "Mill Wheel Toy Factory"! "Santa's Home"! "Reindeer Barn"! This place has it all. Hell's Angels love puppets.

This might be a scene from the Candy Cane Sleigh Ride. Or it might be a scene from my back yard. You decide. Snooty penguins vogue (on ice skates!) near toothy pink and white ice formations.

I hope you have enjoyed your visit to Santa's Village.

  3. Nanook, could that be a crown? You know, like the ones with the red velvet on top that used to magically appear on people in the Imperial Margarine commercials. Maybe he's a "King Penguin"?

  4. Why did it have to be snooty penguins?

Hell's Angels indeed. That's a mid-sixties Honda 305 Super Hawk, back when "you met the nicest people on a Honda"

  6. @ TM!-

Penguins never eat margarine-! It's real butter or nothin'-!!

  7. TokyoMagic!, some people like to beat up other people, it doesn’t mean that they don’t enjoy the magic of Christmas.

Nanook, it could be a fez, or perhaps some sort of mock fez.

TokyoMagic! I always wished that one of those crowns would really appear on my head. My grandpa had to switch to margarine when I was a kid; I liked that it came in a tub, and was soft and spreadable; but it tasted nasty.

Gnometrek, the only thing Indiana Jones hates more than snakes, it’s snooty flightless birds.

Anonymous, that was meant to be funny, but I guess it didn’t work.

Nanook, even today my sister likes margarine, and it’s OK. An improvement from the old days, but still not great. They need the flavor scientists at the Jelly Belly factory to come up with something that actually tastes like butter!

  8. Major-

Now you've done it... a Margarine-flavored Jelly Belly. (It can be a new member of the BeanBoozled® flavors). Coming soon: a Durian-flavored Jelly Belly. Yum.

  9. Love the pink tipped ice formations. I want my hair done that way. Thanks for the trip to Santa's Village, Major.

Nanook, Durian fruit-?! Oh, god no! If given a choice, I think I'd rather sniff dirty socks!

  10. @ Ken-

Jelly Belly already offers a Stinky Socks flavor. You know, when used properly Durian can provide a rather interesting set of tastes. I've had some rather delicious Durian ice cream. (Okay - it's not the same as eating chocolate or strawberry ice cream - but for those with an adventurous eating bent, it should be tasted).

I once bought a Wall's ice cream bar from a roadside vendor in Thailand. Aside from the "Wall's" logo, everything was in Thai, but the pale yellow accents on the wrapper suggested vanilla.

Once I but into it, it had some similarities to a vanilla pudding pop, but there was another interesting flavor in there that I couldn't quite place. It also had small pieces of some sort of whitish-yellow vegetable matter mixed throughout the ice cream.

I finally looked closely at the artwork on the wrapper and discovered to my amazement that I was eating a corn-flavored ice cream bar!

And then a I bought a second one...
