A Few From August, 1961

Here's a nice photo of Sleeping Beauty Castle on a bright sunny day (not a cloud in the sky!). From the angle of the sun, it must still be morning-ish; the semi-circular seating areas on the bridge where those boys are relaxing were recently removed because they were deadly and dangerous!

Darn this traffic! If I want congested streets, I'll stay in Los Angeles.

  1. The castle image almost has a "Walt Disney's Disneyland... A pictorial souvenir" booklet quality about it. I really like it.

The second image is busy. Just like Main Street USA, I like the Rivers of America and Tomorrowland to be full of transportation motion. Where's my Mike Fink Keelboat and PeopleMover!?!

    Thanks, Major.

  2. Those two boys are just lucky that they didn't fall over backwards into the moat like so many of the guests have over the years. Personally, I think safety rails should be attached to everything in that park including the curbs on Main Street.

  3. Major-

Oh my - that first image must have been shot thru the benefit of a time machine: Check out that dude 'texting', right there at the castle-!

    Thanks, Major.

  4. K. Martinez, it does look like an updated version of the 1956/57 guidebook cover photos! I would be concerned if I saw a Mike Fink Keelboat alongside the Omnibus and Streetcar!

TokyoMagic!, I am spearheading a bill that requires everyone to always wear life preservers and padded clothing (and helmets of course). No more boo-boos!

Nanook, I was too embarrassed to mention that kid, because he is actually "sexting".

  5. One of these days, meaning never, I'm going to arrange a big set of Castle photos according to the growth of the ivy on the Castle. I think it must have been around 1960-lates when it was all scraped off. Before that, however, you can date the photos by the size of the ivy's growth...
