Omnibus and C.K. Holliday, July 1958

Here's a terrific photo of an Omnibus, taken as the guests disembark (and others wait to board). I love certain details, like the banner heralding the debut of the Grand Canyon Diorama ("Largest in the world), still one of my favorite things at Disneyland. Or how about the lady heading down the stairs, in her blue dress and pearls? Classy!

In the lower right you'll see this mother and her daughter; mom is carrying a souvenir brochure from the Monsanto Hall of Chemistry.

Here's a better look at the cover. These are pretty easy to come by now, but in the pre-ebay days they could fetch a chunk of change.

I see eight hats, and I'll bet seven of them were purchased at the park! They must have made a fortune from those things over the years. Who knew that souvenir hats would be so popular?

Next we have a beautiful shot of the C.K. Holliday as it pulls into Main Street Station. As usual, it is pulling the freight cars. I love the color in this photo, and even like the glimpse into the parking lot.

I will be out of town starting today; I'll check in when I can, but things will return to normal on Monday. Have a good weekend, everybody!

And to think I never wear hats-!

I love the Omnibus photo, but I'm puzzled - where was the photographer?

  3. I've always loved the redesigned attraction posters that were used on the side of the Omnibus, and this includes a great shot of them! They could have used the regular vertical posters, but they seem to have converted them to a horizontal format just for this purpose.

It also gives us a better look at the Grand Opening sign on the Hills Bros. Coffee House we first saw a few days back.

  4. @ Brad Abbott-

The "re-profiling" of the attraction posters to better fit the available format of the Omnibus seems a natural for a company steeped in movie tradition. You could say the 'typical' attraction poster is an oversized One Sheet and the reduced version is akin to a Half Sheet.

  6. After decades of being a Disney fan I can't believe this is the first time I've seen these "landscape" oriented attraction posters! Now I likey; now I need!

  7. Patrick Devlin - That's the beauty of these vintage Disneyland photos. No matter how much you think you've seen or know of Disneyland, sooner or later there's bound to be something you haven't seen or noticed before.

Major - I love the C.K. Holliday image with the view of the outside world. From Kansas to Oz. Have yourself a good weekend as well. Thanks, Major.

  8. Chuck, we're on top of the steps leading up to the train station!

I spy the Liberty Street Grand Opening banner at the very top of the pic near the upper right corner. Too bad THAT never happened!

  9. Nanook, I hate wearing hats, unless the weather absolutely demands it (extreme cold or hot). Some of the photos in this bunch are exceptionally nice, stay tuned!

Chuck, on the steps of the Train Station, I believe.

Brad Abbot, I love those too, and have only ever seen a single set for sale many years ago. I wish I had saved the info, but I think they went for what is (in retrospect) a steal.

Nanook, those reduced posters almost look like large lobby cards!

Patrick Devlin, you and me both!

    K. Martinez, while I have been aware of those Omnibus signs for a long time, I would welcome an even BETTER look at them. Someday. I'm glad you like the C.K. Holliday image!

TokyoMagic!, I should have read ahead to your comment. Yep, I think we might get a better look at the Liberty Street banner (I sort of forget, actually!!).
