Instamatics

I hope that whoever came up with the same "Instamatic" got a big fat bonus over at Kodak!

Things are looking a bit gloomy over in Fantasyland, and judging by the long sleeves and sweaters on everyone, it was chilly by California standards. Still, it wouldn't have put a damper on my fun!

Main Street Station really looks like an oversized fancy toy train station, like the ones that the Marklin, Bing, or Ives companies made back around the turn of the last century. Ward Kimball had a few beautiful examples which sold for BIG bucks when his collection was auctioned off years ago.

Good old Cascade Peak didn't "do anything" except just look awesome and make everything better that was around it. Which, come to think of it, is actually doing quite a lot!

My hot air balloon is on its way home!

  1. Major-

Any day with Cascade Peak is a wonderful day, indeed-! (I can feel the water mist now...)

    Thanks, Major.

  2. Love the blue and white striped 'tournament' tent that housed the King Arthur Carrousel. That along with the pastel colored dark ride facades, tea cups and plenty of slurry. There's just something simple and old style, yet beautiful about the original Fantasyland.

@Nanook - Looking at the image, I can feel the mist of Cascade peak too. There's something primal about water that sooths the mind and body.

  3. Nanook, I have spoken to people who weren't around when Cascade Peak was there, and while they think it looks nice, they don't quite get why there was such an outcry when it was torn down. I guess it is a case of "You had to be there".

    K. Martinez, I totally agree… though the old Fantasyland was built with a budget in mind, it still had a flat (cartoony?) feeling that somehow worked. The variety of colors and patterns kept the façades interesting in spite of their flatness.

  4. WDW Fantasyland was always a combination of the "Tournament Tent" and "European Village" aesthetics, but it seems with every passing renovation it loses a little more of the fanciful, colorful tent look.
